What travelers are saying
- Cynthia KWestville, IN4,520 contributionsWe stopped here after lunch. After the crazy day we had in Newport this was like heaven!
Quiet except for the sounds of the ocean & gulls. People brought chairs & were just sitting watching the water. There was a couple of guys fishing.
The lighthouse was nice. Everything was open, but I wasn't interested in going up.
They have bathrooms on site also.
Parking was good. We were here on sunny Thursday afternoon in August & it wasn't
crowded.Written September 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I returned recently and it has changed. Fences have been installed so the fort is no longer accessible. There is a huge amount of, graffiti on the old fort, some artistic, some political and some just plain old tagging. There are semi private areas to sit by the water as well a large picnic area. Personally, I have never dove in the area, but have seen many divers there. Admission is free and there is plenty of free parking. All in all, it is still worth a visit to view the ocean and Newport.Written October 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David CWadsworth, OH4,172 contributionsAnother free attraction in Jamestown. Park and visit between 1-4 on summer Saturdays. Lovely garden area greets you as you approach the windmill. They used it to make corn meal and they still operate it from time to time to let people try the fresh corn meal. The self tour only takes about 20 minutes. It’s a nice area and interesting to say the least.Written July 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - B3916IXdavidsUnion, KY17 contributionsMy grandson enjoyed himself oh so much. He is almost 3 years old. They had an old small fire truck for him to ride. He got a plastic fireman hat. He got to sit on an old and a new fire truck. They also have some very old fire trucks to look at. The people there are very very nice. I highly recommend spending some quality time at this museum.Written July 8, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KANO1970North Kingstown, RI40 contributionsA step back in time. The grounds are lovely and the views to the West Passage are stunning. Heritage breed cows along with sheep and chickens to visit with and don't miss the old fashioned tree swing. So glad this location has been preserved by Historic New England. And we found a message in a bottle from NJ at the shoreline!Written August 1, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ets87Ivoryton, CT3 contributionsTruly enjoyed checking out the various lighthouses and checking out state parks.
Annoyed, however, at repeatedly being asked to say more.Written December 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Liked the private beach even though it’s small and rocky and loved you can bring the dogs on it. BIGGEST problem is you can’t pull your car to your campsite. That makes zero sense. It was close to 100° this weekend and we needed some air reprieve for the dogs. Ended up finding one spot we could pull the car in and just asked the RV owner if it was OK and he was fine with it (we had to drive through his space). Plus the seagulls will destroy your bag of trash unless you lock it in the car.
Overall it’s a good spot, close to Beavertail and we went to Newport for dinner one night. GREAT views.Written July 28, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We crossed it several times on our visit and it was generally quite a nice drive. However, the bridge was reduced to one lane partway through our stay and it did slow things down a lot. There are great views from and of the bridge.Written November 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The space/setting is unique, and although small, appears larger due to the high ceilings and ample light.
They offer a variety of classes and have many interesting exhibits.
I found the staff to be very helpful, informative and friendly.Written May 6, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s the ocean so it’s absolutely beautiful. - Daniel SBridgewater, CT1 contributionMy wife and I ran into Pat October 4th at the Providence Farmer's Market. We enjoyed a fabulous lunch of a Pat's Burger and a Brat. We were delighted to have the opportunity to visit Pat's farm observing the animals living contently in a natural setting (i.e. over 1000 free range chickens running in the field). The passion that Pat brings to his work is inspiring. The Providence, R.I., area is fortunate to have Pat's Pastured providing high quality meats for the community. Would highly recommend any one to purchase his products either at a Farmer's Market or at the store on the Farm.
