Nixon Park Nature Center
#1 of 11 Nature & Parks in York
Wife and I come here often to bird watch thru the beautiful glass windows of the beautifully adorned Nature Center and hike the various trails to see many forms of wildlife in wooded and stream flowing areas.
I would highly suggest this park for a field trip -- or just a trip with family or friends -- because there are some great hikes, the nature center is interesting, and there is a lot of wildlife to observe.
Rocky Ridge County Park
#2 of 11 Nature & Parks in York
We visit Rocky Ridge Park every year at Christmas with our children and grandchildren loving to watch the young one's eyes light up with all the Christmas decorations and many lights.
The buildings house various things: a snack bar; live entertainment; Santa; a person explaining the history of this attraction and its purpose (this is a fundraiser for the parks system); and a train display.
Heritage Rail Trail County Park

You can get on it at a number of locations, I recommend the trail head across from the entrance to John Rudy Park at 400 Mundis Race Road, right along the creek.
Some are deep woods without anything but mother nature as far as you can see, areas that can only be reached on the trail.

About 1.5 miles of The Heritage Rail Trail runs through the park also and you could get onto that trail and go 20 miles on it.

York Township Park

The park also features well-maintained soccer and baseball fields, basketball and volleyball courts, a pavilion, and large playground.
And spent a good hour plus at the Kid's Kingdom Playground - it's on the backside of the park, but worth the visit - First, the area is fenced with a wood fence, that appears to list those who helped pay for the g...

Northern Extension of the Heritage Rail Trail
#10 of 11 Nature & Parks in York
This extension of the rail trail is well built and maintained, scenic, enough low hills to keep it interesting and ends in a park woth opportunities to mingle with the community.
I started at the Route 30 parking lot and ran to John Rudy, sometimes running through the park to add on extra miles, and back.
