- Mel Francis3 contributionsTook us 35 minutes from downtown to the top of the lookout with a moderate pace. You need to take a small boat if you’re walking on the beach. It was 10 cordobas (approx $0.25) but we paid $2 because on the way there we didn’t realize there was a fee. The boat crosses a small river and is right along the walking path. From there, don’t do until the very end of the beach. There will be a small opening on your right side that looks like a storm drain between houses. Go through, head left and we used google maps at this point but there will be some signage. It was $2 for foreigner entry and we were the only ones there at 830AM. We spent about half an hour and then did the steep walk down. I’d go early to avoid the heat and crowds. The boat man is there until evening. You can take a taxi or walk way into town to avoid the river crossing but it would add quite a bit of time.Written December 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KimGalesLondon, UK476 contributionsOne of my favourites in SJDS. I had the Thai red curry (which was nothing like any red curry I've had in Thailand but tasted great despite that) and on another occasion the grilled cheese sandwich which was amazing. So so good.Written February 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- traveleratlarge322Bellingham, WA70 contributionsIf you are coming to sjds and want to have a complete experience and not be just a casual tourist, take classes at this school. You will learn so much in a short period of time. They will tailor the classes to fit your needs and schedule. And the teachers are great. They make the learning fun. My teacher was Vanessa and I can't say enough good things about her. I actually extended my time here in order to take more classes. You not only learn Spanish...you learn Nicaragua!Written November 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robin KIowa6 contributionsVery real type experience. Mostly a town full of locals plus backpackers. However, we stayed in a beautiful airbnb on the south side of town overlooking the beach. Good stuff: its beautiful from up there and the locally restaraunts are cheap and good. Bad stuff" we had to walk through a slum to get to our place and while renting a scooter the police stopped us for no reason snd we had to pay $20 USD to leave the stop. I prefer Costa Rica myself, though my husband liked the authenticity of San Juan Del Sur. Of note: While the slums looked bad, the children and people were well fed and appeared happy.Written March 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HNBISOFFBedford, Texas1,009 contributionsPlaya el Coco is a beautiful beech with beautiful sand and water. The beech is a lovely place to find wonderful relaxation and an opportunity to forget about the worldly events.Written January 19, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Piyush PDagenham, UK6 contributionsThe whole trip and service from both Rosa and the driver was incredible. Firstly we were running late and Rosa not only waited for us, but also offered us to get drinks and snacks as she was aware we had been rushing.
When we got to la flor we were one of the only tourists there and got to release hundreds of newly hatched turles. Rosa and the driver didn’t rush us at all, we waited until all the turtles had reached the sea, and gave additional help to the ones struggling.
She also took photos of us and was very proactive about giving us a good experience.
We also went off season so Irvin was very proactive about finding out and contacting us when we could go.

The course is a 12 hole course and only cost C$50/each for unlimited play and lots of discs to choose from. Its a short course but lovely maintained and playable by all skill levels. - Tuffysinclair10 contributionsGreat beach. Quick cab from SJDS - there is an entrance fee (2.00 usd ish) we had the whole beach to ourselves in the morning.
Small lovely hotel on beach has food and drink to purchase. Also, one seasoning of Survivor was filmed on this beach (for fans!)Written December 10, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. For me, it was the exact balance between strict and easy. Between grammar and conversing. But the greatest thing is that she is both a local hero and rebel at the age of 63. I would definitely recommend her. To get to know Spanish, and the local community. Classroom was not ideal but is about to be improved. - Frank B1 contributionGreat little beach, just a short ride from San Juan Del Sur. Had a wonderful day here with friends. Learned to surf at Robertito’s Surf School. He was a great instructor. After a couple hours playing in the water we were able to kick back and enjoy great music, food and drink at the few little beach bars scattered across the sandy beach. This is truly a great hang out spot with a good beach vibe.Written January 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zen TFairmont Hot Springs, Canada7 contributionsLoved the availability of books and free WIFI.
Too bad their own computers didn't work, and also, you were only allowed to borrow two books at a time.
