Rice is one of those niches where you can see the Rocks and Minerals that are always right at your feet and I highly recommend the Rice Museum as a pick stop as you wander the State of Oregon along Highway 26.
We have visited the Natural History Museum at the Smithsonian and the Rock and Mineral Display there - Rice NW Museum of Rocks and Minerals was just as good with some 'specimens' even more fabulous.

We spent our first vacation day in Portland navigating and riding all types of public transportation and LOVED it!! Portland's MAX is a treat to ride if you're a visitor.
And if you buy a 1 day pass, you can also use it for getting around in the city (although Portland's downtown is compact enough to be walk-able) and to visit sites like the zoo, the Japanese Gardens and the Rose G...

Within an hour's drive of Portland, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Willamette Valley and enjoy numerous vineyards (and wine tasting) along the way.

The cozy tasting room at the top of the hill offers live music, food pairings prepared by Chef Mike, and assorted cheeses and chocolates upstairs.
It is also a unique experience in that while they of course make a pinot and a rose, Boyd especially loves big reds- sangiovese in Willamette... who knew?!?!

The tasting room inside a quaint farmhouse is casual and charming; the greeters are three lovely canines.
When we arrived, a friendly dog greeted us and led us to the tasting room, which was really more like an old-time kitchen.
