What travelers are saying
- AndrewSt. Albans, UK7,343 contributionsWe enjoyed our visit to the Muckleburgh Collection. This is the largest privately owned military museum in the UK and is located on a WW2 Weybourne Anti-Aircraft Training Camp (which closed in 1958)—the site still contains an RAF radar receiving station.
The museum, founded by Squadron Leader Berry Savory and his son Sir Michael (Lord Mayor of the City of London from 2004 to 2005), opened in 1988 and now contains over 150 artillery pieces, tanks, and other vehicles, most of which are in working order. What we found really interesting were the Soviet-era tanks, the names of which are often mentioned in the news from Ukraine.
Several exhibits are outside of the area you need to pay to visit, some can only be seen via the army lorry tour (which you can take without paying to visit the museum). The trip on the back of the lorry was the highlight of our visit.
Whilst the permitter area was mined, the mines have since been removed, but the warning signs are still in place. This all adds to the excitement of the visit!Written February 10, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.Written November 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sonia M7 contributionsA truly wonderful department store with good, old fashioned service. Superb range of kitchen ware, china, gifts, beauty products, clothing, with a very well stocked food hall selling quality produce. Staff always very helpful. We visited the cafe today for the first time and found the food and service very good indeed. Can highly recommend this shop ...a real hi-light when visiting Holt ...only wish we lived closer!Written February 1, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - md1mmSheffield, UK1,626 contributionsExcellent reserve on the North Norfolk coast. Very large number of birds including different species when we visited. - sonia047cambridge uk13 contributionsA haven! It was a place we had come across many years ago on a short stay in Norfolk, and today, we came upon it again and it was even better! Such a brilliant idea and wonderfully executed..... I loved the meandering paths through the wild flowers in different habitats, the harvest mice displayed so brilliantly so one could enjoy these endearing little creatures - I had never seen them before. They are caught and put back - they breed in the natural surroundings. Coffee was excellent and sitting outside by the pond in the sunshine watching the dragonflies buzz about, it was the absolute hightlight of my week here in Norfolk! Many thanks to the team at Natural Surroundings...Written June 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - machinmadYaxley, UK2,681 contributionsTucked away in the farming countryside this ruined Manor House has a rich history. The info boards describe how one local family made their fortune and lost it, resulting in the Manor House having to be dismantled so it’s stone-work could be sold to raise cash to pay their debts.
There are lots of clearly signed footpaths so make sure your walk them to get a good view of the different angles of this property.Written March 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were shown to a table in the window which was a lovely spot. Not crowded in and pleasant atmosphere.
We were served quite quickly and we both had the full English with fried eggs. The sausages and bacon were really good quality and everything was hot. The only complaint my husband had was his egg was not quite cooked enough for him but mine was fine.

Excellent facilities and a reasonably priced cafe which was clearly a well loved spot with visitors and locals (the best cheese scone I have had in years!)
The staff were knowledgeable and helpful and it’s great there are options to access the wetlands for paid up hardcore bird watchers and free options for those of us who want a try at it and a nice walk.
The route and map was clear and easy to navigate and we saw some lovely birds!
Also a great shop where we spent a small fortune on lots of beautiful gifts!Written July 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hillary SWigan, UK265 contributionsHolt is a small town which has a substantial number of "yards" within its main streets and to get the most out of visiting these there is a map and route to follow along the two main streets to show you where the main points of interest and the yards are. A really good insight in the history of the town which had largely been destroyed by fire in 1708. It was rebuilt in the Georgian style with donations from all around the country and these buildings are still there to be seen.Written April 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - greeneyedmezzosopLondon, UK168 contributionsI admit to bias as this church plays a part in my family history along with several others in the north norfolk area). I have visited several times and alwyas marvel at the largesse of the place and try an dimagine my folk being christened and getting married here. The clear glass windows in this area are always beautiful to me, letting in that natural light. There are various relatives in teh churchyard although not all in marked graves - or readable ones at that! I need to source a grave yadr map and come back! Even if you don't have ancesyrt here, it is a superb church, well looked after and with a sense of it being admired but not commercialised.
Car parkin in Cley is a bit of a mare so choose a quieter time of day to visit and then you can ofetn just pull up outside on the road. That road used to be sea in the 1800s by the way, or that is what i have understood. Not quite usre how you got to the church - must have been tidal!Written February 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were staying in Blakeney so decided to walk from there along the coastal path. This is very scenic and added on about an extra 5 miles to our round trip. The walk along the beach is a linear walk so you return the same way. It is best to do when the tide is out so you can walk on the firmer sand/shingle. The top part of the beach is all shingle and difficult to walk on. When we got close to the end of Blakeney Point it was roped off with no access to protect the wildlife. We spoke with a nice young man working there for the National Trust who told us a few things and directed us over a boardwalk to the boathouse which has a bit of history in so worth visiting. From the boathouse you walk through some sand dunes back to the beach to retrace your steps to Cley Beach. We were lucky with the weather on a nice sunny day but I’m sure it would be an enjoyable walk whatever the weather.Written July 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
