- krissybee1979Wilmington, NC1,439 contributionsI really enjoyed my visit here. I had the shrimp and grits and a charcuterie platter. My friend had an IPA and she enjoyed it as well. I would definitely recommend.Written January 5, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- hakisalimWashington DC, DC64 contributionsWide selection of quality beers, not afraid to brew something other than an IPA. Good very good pub fare. - Mark GCatonsville, MD3,495 contributionsWe conveniently parked next to the Flytrap, so after our trip downtown for the Azalea Festival fireworks show over the Cape Fear it would be an easy excuse to drop in later in the evening. For our 1st visit we were pretty impressed with the beer, indoor bar and bartender Brook as well as the neat outdoor courtyard area with tables, lights and music. Out flight was comprised of an interesting Peach Sake Saison, and very good Belgium Blondes, Oatmeal Porters and Hazy IPAs. We actually settled on the Peach and like the laid back comfortable atmosphere and will come back when we are in town later in the summer. They don't have a kitchen but do have a few snack items to hold you over, so bring in your own food.Written April 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richard B11 contributionsI started going to this brewery when it was very small and cramped but it had the best crafted beers in Wilmington. The Blairs Breakfast Stout is the best stout available anywhere and I always get stout when I am traveling if it is offered. Some stouts are too powerful and overwhelming, but this is perfect. The Tropical Lightening IPA has taken the town by storm and is served in most restaurants. I am not an IPA person, but find it very easy to drink. The third ring is the Jalapeño Session which does have a wee bit of a bite, but is very drinkable and happens to be my daughters favorite.
The serving area is large and airy with outside seating weather permitting. They have games for young and old, a book exchange table, food trucks most nights and free EV plug in. All in all, a great place to spend some time while in Wilmington.Written December 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Food trucks are there almost every day, and there's usually quite a few "locals" from the surrounding neighborhood, so always a great time.Written November 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mp_traveler2021Leland, NC1,714 contributionsI've been here a couple of times with friends. Recently we went to enjoy the Scottish gathering.
There was a food truck (Mommiez) that took forever to get our food - one person working the food truck. There was live music and of course beer!
I'm not a beer drinker, so I had a glass of wine with my lunch, an excellent curry chicken salad on a multi-grain bread - a hefty portion of chicken . Friends enjoyed the variety of beers on hand and their lunch too.
Someone from the Scottish 'club' had haggis for those willing to try it. I had a tiny, tiny, tiny taste. Yuck!! I can eat pretty much everything but won't try haggis again.
Will be back tomorrow for the Oktoberfest (2 Oct 2021)!Written October 1, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TangoNYGreat Neck, NY1,721 contributionsThis is one of the larger breweries in downtown Wilmington NC. We have a company event in downtown and chose this one for a corporate evening. Lots of all kinds of pale ale to IPA to dark beer. Food was pretty good. I would recommend this place for a business event.Written July 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mark GCatonsville, MD3,495 contributionsWe had driven by Mad Mole many times over the past few years when in town on vacation and decided to drop in around 7pm on a Friday night to find a nice lively atmosphere with a food truck, a great music soundtrack piped in and nice lights hanging thru the trees and its outdoor patio area. Inside we saw an attractive bar with table seating and a wall listing their 8 or so beers. The Marilyn MonMole was a Belgium Blonde that was good, a little hoppy and a reddish blonde color. The one we liked even better was the Molesonboro Island, a grapefruit pilsner that had a nice smooth taste.
The Mad Mole had a comfortable relaxing atmosphere with a varied mix of age clientele and a friendly efficient staff. Will certainly return to this hidden gem when back in the area in September.Written July 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I did not care for the chili cheese fries because they had too much of a tomato base and the gyro sandwich needed more flavor and tzatziki sauce. The cauliflower wings were a 10/10. Buffalo sauce and teriyaki were excellent. The peanut butter pie was a win as well.Written January 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John FGloucester, VA16 contributionsGreat selection of beer and drinks. Very spacious with plenty of activities/games/things to do.
Was only in for a couple of beers, so we didn't stay long, but it appeared that they have a varied and fun activity/events schedule.
Encounter with staff was brief but polite.

It's located on Market Street about 3 miles north of the intersection with Military Cutoff, and it sits back a little on the right side as you travel north. There are a few different feels to the brewery property and the atmosphere is excellent in all of them. As you enter on the right there is a door that takes you into a classic bar setting with the dark woods that oozes character. If you walk thru the bar, it will land you on a nice covered open air bar area overlooking the grounds.
As you enter the property and decide to go left instead you go thru a stone archway that opens up onto a nice Astroturf courtyard with CornHole, a gazebo for the musicians, and a lot of open areas as well as a doorway to take you to the covered outdoor bar.
They have a small but representative beer menu, and we settled in on the excellent Intercoastal Blonde Ale and the Beech Comber Honey Blonde Ale.
The landscaping is fantastic with the large Live Oak trees draped in Spanish Moss and lighting thru out making for a magical evening visit. They have music a few days a week as well as food trucks. On our Friday night visit, they had WheelzPizza in the small front lot area and our pepperoni pizza was very good with a nice crispy medium crust with a nice sauce. The Outer Dunes Brewing property is as nice a brewery setup that you will find with a great causal comfortable atmosphere. The two ladies behind the bar couldn't have been any nicer being both informative and personable. Look forward to a return trip.Written July 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
