Limit search to Pleasant Valley.
Val-Kill Cottage Hyde Park 4.1 mi away
#2 of 6 Sights & Landmarks in Hyde Park
The only National Historic Site dedicated to a first lady, the understated property reflects both the private and public Eleanor and is a modern day gem.
... Val-Kill itself is (I think) best understood within the context of some other notable historic sites in the area (namely, The FDR historic site which an be reached by both walking trail and car, and Top Cottage).

We can strongly endorse visiting these Hyde Park landmarks if you want an in depth view of the history of FDR, Eleanor Roosevelt, the Great Depression or World War II.
We took the Roosevelt Ride bus from the Poughkeepsie train station, which is walking distance from us, saw the house, the stables, the grave sites, had lunch, toured the museum, took the Ride to Top Cottage.

Our NPS guide was excellent - his intimate stories of FDR's boyhood, family, marriage, law school, political career, and battle with polio made touring the site a rich and personal experience.
The hikes are quite nice and one could spend a whole day exploring the area on foot, even walking on the Hyde Park Trail to the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site or Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site.
