Rough waves at times but a beautiful place. The beach is great for all ages and the big waves are only further out. The beach is huge! The community is rather idyllic with some very nice, expensive houses. The police presence here can be a bit much for what is really a very safe community. The restaurants here are alright and there are many good bars to party, though they tend to close kind of early, usually by like 12a or so. The last ferry was also like 1200a or so and they should add a few more late ferries on the weekends.
There's lots of deer and beautiful scenery everywhere, and at least one church and school. Also a very good pizza place among others in F.I.
Hotel rooms are expensive and it's better to plan months ahead. We had breakfast at snack shack, dinner at Casino and after dinner drinks at the cafe. - Cheryl HNew York City, NY34 contributionsWe had so much fun parasailing with Fire Island Parasail! The crew was friendly and punctual. The captain, Chris wad extremely considerate of our time and our safety.
The day of our parasailing adventure he called us early to let us know the winds were picking up and he would rather us reschedule than jeopardize our safety.
