- Wander176807569984 contributionsI was in town for a business trip and had a few hours before my flight, so I visited the City Museum. This is an absolutely insane place! There's a magical forest, tanks full of fish, axolotls, and bearded dragons, and a giant pair of underpants hanging on the wall. There are lots of climbing structures and slides for kids, but also fine art and architectural history displays for adults. Interspersed with the exhibits are a popcorn stand, a pizza place, a cocktail bar, and a pinball arcade. If you go to one place during your stay in Saint Louis, other than the Arch, make it the City Museum. I can't wait to go back!Written November 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- vicnorrisKansas City, KS33 contributionsWas in St. Louis for a week vacation, unfortunately it rained 2 days. Did some research and found the museum. Love the architect of this beautiful building. Lots of special exhibits for viewing.Written November 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Cello12345Urbana, IL811 contributionsWe were there all day, and didn't have time to do everything. Our 6 year old was fascinated! This is a children's museum on steroids. A good mix of action, creative play, and intellectual exercise. When it became obvious that we'd be there until closing time, we ordered some lunch from the onsite Picnic Basket Cafe. They did a great job, and the choices of food satisfied our entire party, including vegetarian and low inflammation diets.Written November 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MichaelKohn1Saint Louis, MO389 contributionsI came specifically for the 1904 Worlds' Fair exhibit and did not disappoint. I was told this is now a permanent feature so plenty of time. So well done with artifacts and a huge model of the entire exhibit in Forest Park. This is something that should not be missed.Written August 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robin BPhoenix, AZ1,484 contributionsWe visited on a Wednesday afternoon and Ginger was our docent and she made the tour very interesting and enjoyable. Because we were the only visitors, we chatted a long time with Ginger and our tour lasted about an hour. This one remaining Victorian home has most of the original furnishings, which were acquired back from Yale University. Most of the rooms are furnished; a few are set up with displays, and some you don’t get to visit. There’s a narrow parking lot on the west side of the building or you could get the code from the Public Library and park in their lot to the south (I didn’t say that). There are restrooms and a nice gift shop.Written October 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Michael TLeicester, UK50 contributionsI have visited the national railway museums of England (York), France (Mulhouse), and Portugal.
This is by far the best for children of all ages...For European visitors it showcases the many kinds of equipment made in the US for worldwide distribution. For Americans, railroad history is largely the history of the expansion westward. The collection of automobiles is also amazing.
Plan on at least two, but nearer three hours.
Oh, and lovely staff and volunteers and don't forget to climb into the cab of the 'Big Boy) loco.Written August 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It seemed to me that it did a good job telling Missouri's torturous story of torn allegiance. It is amazing that this museum accepts no government-funding. There was an abundance of well-displayed and well-preserved artifacts. We spent about two hours here, though one could spend much longer - or much less if in a hurry. Sadly, the bathrooms were not open and neither was the Visitors Center five minutes away. Some confusing signage off of the parking lot - no big deal except we almost left because we thought the museum was closed. Anyway, this museum was absolutely worth the trip and I highly recommend it, especially for history buffs.Written September 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tagpdsYork, PA14 contributionsAmazing aray of historically based telephone products and history. The Volunteer staff are all retired telephone company staff and know the history of telephone communications. We learned so much in about 2 hours, and could have easily spent more time. There was so much nostalgia as well that we learned more about their beginnings and function. Great for us older folks and would be good for kids who only know a cell phone.Written November 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ThomasTCatSt. Louis, MO780 contributionsOur eight year old grandaughter really had a good time. She especially loved the slide, but the speedometer wasn't working and she was disappointed in that. The Vet Clinic was really cute and had so much potential, but the stuffed animals were worn and dirty and a lot of the vet supplies were missing, so there wasn't much they could do to pretend they were taking care of the animals. She liked the Dinosaur Dig, finding the Swamp Monster in the Seaweed Swamp, the spaceship that had light-up controls, and she was busy for the entire three hours that we were there.Written November 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Claudette CWashington2,717 contributionsThis is one of the best team museums in MLB rivaling Cooperstown. It is set up like a timeline for the franchise with special displays for women’s baseball, and homage to foreign born players. In addition you can hold a bat from one of 4 different HOF players. Definitely a must see!Written December 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- NemoTravelerAarhus, Denmark905 contributionsThe National Blues Museum is located downtown St. Louis, within a short walk from the Arch. Admission USD 15 with reductions for seniors, children, military, and students.
The history of the blues music is fascinating and it has influenced so many other genres, such as jazz, country, and rock. Several interesting exhibits are on show and you may also try your own abilities making music.

This museum is full of important information on the Holocaust and provides an excellent summary of what happened in Europe from 1933-1945. Events are presented in an appropriate context. As a good Holocaust museum should be, it is thought-provoking and shocking. The museum presents excellent documentation and has a strong (but not excessive) local flavor. The personal stories are the most moving. This is an excellent museum and I highly recommend it.Written December 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Walton SBurke, Virginia, United States74 contributionsGreat place to learn about our economy and understand money. It is not a large museum that takes an hour or hour and half to visit. But very well laid out and informative.
