Great displays, showing western expansion, the need for the Pony Express and quicker mail delivery, how it was accomplished and why it came so quickly to an end.

Patee House Museum tells the history of Missouri from the 1860s to the 1880s. There’s the Pony Express Headquarters’ original office and re-creation of St. Joe as it was in the late 1800s. One room has accurate portraits of the people who figured in Missouri history.
The house where Bob Ford murdered Jesse James is one of my favorite parts of the Patee House.

Many members of our IBM Ring 129 Sorcerer's Circle (a club for magicians and magic enthusiasts) spent an evening solving a crime at the St. Joseph Lunatic Asylum tonight! It was great fun... and everyone had a great time!

The Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph is a real treasure... one of my favorite museums in St. Joseph! It is actually housed in part of a complex that once was the St. Joseph Lunatic Asylum. When you walk around looking at the exhibits of "mental health curing procedures" of yesteryear, you'll be shocked at how barbaric these methods were. It really is something you must see to believe!

The folks at the museum have created a fun, interactive event for families, groups, co-workers, clubs, etc called "Murder at the Asylum". You search through the exhibits looking for "clues" that hopefully lead you to discover who murdered Dr. Harlow Mills.

Our magician friends and spouses (of IBM Ring 129) did the event tonight (we divided up into four super sleuth teams) and had a competition to see which team, if any, could solve the ghastly murder! Everyone enjoyed looking through the exhibits, scouring the underground tunnel, watching videos of witnesses and suspects, and more!

Nurse Audra Hill (aka Kami Jones, Communications & Group Tours Coordinator for the museum, in full period-appropriate nurses attire) set the tone for the evening and acted as our "guide" imploring us to help solve the crime. Again, it was a very fun experience and I highly recommend it for your family, company, organization, etc. We had 14 participants and it was a great size. The interactive murder mystery experience is only $25/person and well worth it (and you'll get a discount for larger groups).

Bravo and kudos to the folks who thought of doing this!

This is a very small musuem- you are just touring his home he lived in when he was shot, but it was a neat piece of history. If nothing else just the furnishings of that era are neat to look at. They did have many artifacts though from Jesse's life and the man working there was very knowledgable. It was a nice place to visit.

The Nature Center is very nice and is actually doing some upgrades. They had a “find it” card for kids to look for a certain item in displays. The kids around us seemed to really enjoy that. There are interactive displays. We didn’t use the trails as it was really hot but many people seemed to be. I would have given it 5 stars but we were a little disappointed in the aquarium. That really wasn’t their fault. We live close to many amazing freshwater aquariums.

This is one of my favorite, near-by attractions. There's a permanent collection of good art, traveling exhibits of varying degrees of interest, local art, and fun displays of whatever the kids are learning in the art classroom downstairs. The staff is helpful and enthused.

The art is star, of course, but the historical building is also amazing. On a recent visit, much of the art had been removed in order to refinish the gorgeous parquet floors, and I still enjoyed showing my friends around, thanks to the architecture.

Robidoux Row Museum showcases recreated 1840s temporary lodging for new residents of St. Joseph, who had bought lots from Joseph Robidoux, the city’s founder, and westward-bound pioneers.

Walter Cronkite was a St. Joe resident. He is honored with a free memorial at Missouri Western State University in Spratt Hall. The memorial covers his whole career, including videos of many historic broadcasts, including the President Kennedy assassination and the Watergate broadcast.

Took our grandchildren for a visit. Having been there years ago and having heard of many improvements, I was looking forward to seeing it. They are now trying to give some organization to the exhibits and tell more of the story of the wars. They have many plans for the future which, if carried through, will make this museum a top of the line attraction. Liked having tour guide especially with young children who don't know the history of the wars. Admission charge too small.

This is a gorgeous church. It is being repaired and I didn't get to take a peek inside, but it is a must-see if you love architecture. I spent a long time here just taking in the outside of the building.
