Perth has two miniature railways, one at Castledaire, and this one, the Stirling Miniature Railway. The admission price is $10pp or $40 for a Family (2 Adults and up to 4 Children), Under 3yrs are free, ride the trains as many times as you like. EFTPOS available. Open the last Sunday of the month 10am-2pm. There is an excellent area with grass and shade trees with free gas BBQ's so you can make it a family picnic with train rides for all. Big kid's will enjoy it too.

Baker Street is the only Station and where you board the trains, there are two platforms each providing different size trains and different passenger capacity, mostly steam hauled, with some electric, and some diesels. The seating is bench style single row. The operators are very safety conscious and the following rules and advice appear on their website: "Closed in shoes must be worn and feet must be kept on the train foot boards for safety. We recommend that parents sit behind their children to supervise them during the ride and also to ensure they keep their feet on the foot boards".

The track, basically ovoid, takes you round three times, each time with a slight variance, the children and adults alike enjoy the tunnel, and the bridge. On a busy day there are many different trains running on 2 different tracks with queues at the central station waiting their turn.

A great day out for families, on the Sunday I visited it was busy and everyone was having a great time. At the ticket office various drinks, snacks, and icecreams are available at very good prices, AUD2 for a can of coke!

Some visitors had arrived by car (ample parking within 50metres), others had arrived by bus. From Perth Busport Wellington Street, Stands 13-16 take Transperth Bus No.388 to Stirling Shopping Centre, Wanneroo Road after Balcatta Road, from the bus stop walk back down Wanneroo Road and turn right into Balcatta Road and left into Vasto Place, about 420 metres. Google "Transperth Journey Planner" for other directions.

Google "Stirling Miniature Railway, Balcatta" for information, Facebook and website links. These great little authentic steam trains have been running for 25 years operated by the Northern Districts Model Engineering Society (Perth) Inc (NDMES).

We've been a few times now. It's a lot of fun. They have a great range of games and the staff are helpful.

Clean and fun! We stayed for just under 2 hours and the kids had a great time. A shame that we couldn’t use the 9d cinema as it was a weekday.
