Anderson's Bike Rentals

It's a few steps farther than the new bike rental place across from the ferry, but the rent is $5 less per bike and I loved supporting this family business.

This is the best beach for relaxing with family and children without worrying about having to watch for strong waves every 30 seconds.
A wonderful beach for young children - a level sandy beach leading to gentle waters.

My mom is a Luce, which is one of the founding families of the island, and we were finding many of her ancestors buried in the cemeteries.
This was a wonderfully designed and narrated introduction to the island and was a highlight of our family reunion.

Esperanza Riding Company - Martha's Vineyard
#21 of 21 things to do in Oak Bluffs

Excellent experience for family with teens and younger kids
Oak Bluffs Town Beach
#11 of 21 things to do in Oak Bluffs
The sands are soft, the horizon has sails of all kids moving slowly (adding to the scenic island view) and the waters are nice and cold to even out the hot days.
I think it's particularly appropriate if you have young children as it's very calm and stays pretty shallow with soft sand, which also contributes to relatively warmer water.
