Really enjoyed this little museum. It has a few buildings to explore and videos too. There are also some interactive activities for children. This is THE place for ship building, so it certainly is worth a stop for the history alone.

If you are interested in "Americana" a great place to visit for adults and children is the Cogswell Grant in Essex MA.
Located on a country road, not far from the center in Essex.
A great collection of American Folk Art and Early American furniture, etc. collected and used by the Little family who lived in the old farmhouse during their summers there.
The interior left as it was then with every room a true vignette of the past in America.
An interesting and fun place to visit for all ages more than once.

From both the terrace at the motel and inn and the outdoor deck at Shea's Restaurant, I enjoyed not only watching the tidal change but the boat traffic and wildlife along the river. The setting sun was an added plus!

We actually chanced upon the antique shops while in Essex mainly to see the wonderful shipbuilding museum. Nevertheless, the antique shops are intriguing and some bursting at the seams. I speak mostly of Main Street Antiques that has an extraordinary collection of furniture (some covered outside because there's so much of it) and antique artifacts of every kind, especially glass, picture frames and old photos. Difficult to walk and see everything in some places since there is so much inventory.

We visited here during a trip to Salem. It was an interesting cemetery. There are a lot of very old headstones there with a lot of history. Some stones have worn completely and have no wording but still interesting.

Visited on a cold November morning when the grass was still green and lush but most leaves had fallen from trees, affording better views of the Great Marsh from the top of Whites Hill. This is a relatively short, not-too-steep, and well-maintained trail, with rewarding perspectives of the Essex River Estuary and the Atlantic beyond. Birds of many types were abundant throughout; you will feel that you have traveled far back in time here. A brief drive afterward to the end of Island Rd. is highly recommended; you look back at Whites Hill, getting the full sense of this unique land and seascape.

A great time playing this Scenic Golf Course for the first time in many years. Mini upgrades have taken place including a new bar and grill and large deck. After nine holes it was a great place to enjoy delicious fried clams and refreshments. Family-run, this Jewel offers a competitive course fantastic views of Cape Ann and a friendly atmosphere.

My friend and I went on the Essex River Cruise for their last Sunday in October. The tour included apple cider donuts along with hot or cold apple cider, which added a great fall touch. The tour was beautifully narrated and contained a lot of interesting tidbits and little-known information about the Essex River and the islands, which are located along its banks. An award-winning movie, The Crucible, was filmed in the area, and I enjoyed hearing about some of the challenges the crew had to deal with, such as having to plant corn for authenticity, and paying the Essex clammers a daily fee for not going clamming in their motorboats. I can highly recommend this tour.

We came here as a girls day to make pumpkins and absolutely loved it. Great instructors! It is extremely hard to find the place as it is at the owners house. It is down a gravel road.

One of the best yarn shops on the North Shore in the greater Boston area. The owner, is friendly and outgoing. Her shop is stuffed full of samples, and loads of fantastic yarns. If you are looking for anything knitting related or a gift for someone who knits you should stop in.

I've purchased yarn from many shops in and around the Boston area and this one is a treasure.

OmG. If you’re traveling (especially if you’re not), and you want to get out of your comfort zone, this is the place to call. They make it SO easy to get on the water and get at it! The owner/instructor is so good and knowledgeable, and patient and encouraging! I fell off 2x and it was no big deal to wait for me to learn how to climb back on. He made me want to get up and succeed - and I finally did! Our party will be back! We LOVED it!!!
