What travelers are saying
- Dane CSilver Spring, MD90 contributionsI agree with the other visitors: small museum, well done, everyone will probably find something different that is interesting for them, but everyone takes note of the bullet that killed Lincoln. Free to get into, lots of parking, nice choice of restaurants nearby on Georgia Avenue.Written March 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CyndiMomManhattan Beach, CA307 contributionsHuge park - so many things to do here. But we went on a Monday and the attractions were closed. Our grandson did enjoy the playground area a lot and we hope to come back again with him when the other things are open.Written August 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jaseatonSilver Spring, MD2,737 contributionsFormerly the Silver Theater, a downtown standard theater from the 60’s, the AFI is a totally rehabilitated Art Deco jewel in the heart of Silver Spring. They show old classics, hold international film festivals, feature indie films, and generally do their best to educate, illuminate, and enhance audiences’ film experience. We saw a matinee a showing of “Between the Temples,” an hilarious but bittersweet film about a Jewish cantor who loses his voice and finds renewal with his childhood music teacher, whose dream is to get a Bat Mitzvah in her old age. Suspenseful, charming and hilarious by turns.Written September 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - I visited this place🇺🇸🇫🇷🇬🇷🇨🇭🇬🇧Israel35,742 contributionsPROS
* Beautiful green oasis in urban/suburban areas
* "an oasis of nature" from the urban concrete
* Long winding shaded trails
* Walking paths all totally very shaded by dense tall trees
* Access from many points and neighborhoods
* Populated by deer and birds/ducks/swans
CONS
* Significant traffic volume on parts where there is a road
* Signage for directions is not the clearest
* Frequented by other walkers- many pushing baby carriages
* Trails shared by a good number of bicyclists- without any designated lane at all!!
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... when I came out for my daily 0530am power walk, and expected to wander around streets and neighborhoods and shopping centers, but found an entrance into the woods and was entranced and thrilled to find all the paths in this lush shaded green park.... and then, every morning was another adventure- wandering through the paved trees and ending up in Wheaton or other parts of Silver Spring. I always spent at least half an hour, and once I walked for almost two hours. Exploring the park became my standard default activity from 0530am during my two week vacation there.
TIPs
* Do it and go
* Beware of fast bicyclists sharing the walking path
* Deer easily visible at dusk (yes- I walked after 1900H also.

Both of the galas I attended have been successful. It is easy to find and public parking is available in the garage building across the street. The plaza in front of the building was abuzz with young folks and families relaxing in the warm evening. The ballroom is attractive and the sound system worked well.Written April 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jinxminxTakoma Park, MD455 contributionsThe Silver Spring Library was tiny and much more off the main drag when I was growing up. It has been replaced by this lovely, central, community oriented building with lots of light and space to sit and read. Even a coffee shop on the ground floor (though you can't take coffee into the library).Written January 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jaseatonSilver Spring, MD2,737 contributionsThe Forum is a tiny stage next door to the AFI movie theater in downtown Silver Spring. Pretty sure this used to be the space where Roundhouse was in one of its many earlier incarnations. The small stage is viewed by an audience of about 100 max seated in four rows on both sides of a rectangular stage. The performance we saw was Nat Turner in Jerusalem, a 2-person cast show set on Turner's last night before execution. Not especially gripping drama, but the Forum's mission is to elevate your consciousness, not to stage compelling drama. Not sure they accomplished even that mission, but technically the staging was flawless, and the cast, one actor playing Turner and the other actor alternating between the roles of his jailer and the scribe assigned to take his confessions, were not guilty of the playwright's shortcomings. Note: the Forum is only a part-time producer in this space which is shared with our drama companies.Written March 29, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ruth GColumbia, MD1,141 contributionsMy dad took us somewhere interesting every Saturday when we were kids. This train station was one of our stops. Now it’s a museum and a party venue. It was locked up when we got there, but we could look in the window at the restored interior with its rows of benches and ticket counter as well as railroad memorabelia.Written July 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
