Owl's Head is always fun -- a short little walk thru a path in Owl's Head Park - parking is easy ...just follow the path along the coastline ~10 minutes to the Light. Short 53 steps up to the Light -- part of that has a ramp - and short few steps into the top of the Light -- small museum/gift shop on the grounds - all run by the USCG. Great fresnel lens - and history here - go explore!

We had heard of this museum over the years, but finally this year on the way back from further "Down East" we stopped by with absolutely no idea what we might find. We were immediately impressed by the friendly empoyees at the entrance booths. They informed us that not only was the museum open with a wonderful collection of antique bicycles, automobiles and airplanes, but a foreign antique car show was being held outdoors that day as well. But there was more than that!

They were offering rides in various antique cars, so we jumped into a Model T for a short spin. The driver gave us a quick education regarding the origin of Model Ts and A's and the colors they were originally available in. After exiting the car, we noticed triplanes and biplanes on the adjacent grass field, and we were then told that they were offering flights to visitors (for a reasonable fee of course to defray the cost of operating these machines safely) in three different biplanes.

A very friendly and knowledgeable aircraft expert by the name of Richard gave us a great history lesson on the different types of planes we could see and how airport runways are marked and designated, and encouraged us to go for a flight on a beautiful early fall day. Wow what a great day this was and definitely a memorable experience in one's life! Thank you to all the Owls Head employees, volunteers and car show participants that we met!!

This is a super secluded beach and state park which is perfect for a few hours of swimming and beach football. You can sit , explore or swim. It has it all. Public outhouses are available.

I spend an amazing flight with Dave. We flew up to a little over 5,000 ft, and cruised around trying to catch thermals. It's a two seat glider, just him and I, which is like totally cool. The glider has a 2 liter motor, with variable prop, and Dave, in addition to being the State Senator for the area, also has logged about 16,000 hrs, mostly with a career for Delta Airlines. Felt very safe through the whole thing. Guy know most everything and anything. Most of all, he knows how to read weather, clouds, and where the best winds are, for when he cuts the engine. You get a view of the area, that is another level of beauty. Well worth it. Though a senator, we didn't talk much politics...it was all about the area and flying.
