- Dave IWestover, MD854 contributionsGreat ocean scenery and very picturesque. A few spots along the road to stop and take pictures. - scranton38Sayre, PA530 contributionsThis is the second time we did this drive. I’m quite jealous of these houses perched over the beaches/cliffs. Just amazing…makes you feel like you’re in a movie or a titan of industry. Loved it.Written July 19, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Travel-Experience11Austin, TX7 contributionsThe Intown Trolley driven by Ed brought us to Saint Ann’s Church. Absolutely a must visit. - scranton38Sayre, PA530 contributionsThis whole area is just gorgeous. We stayed a bit south and felt the need to drive up. This will be our new go-to when in Maine. - Joseph IWestport, MA89 contributionsSaint Anthony's Franciscan Monastery is located at the former Campbell estate on the Kennebunk River. The former mansion is now a church. The religious school and the stables are now guest accommodations. The rooms are simple. Some in the stables are more spacious and better appointed. There is a breakfast with all of the fixings, from blueberry pancakes to eggs with sweet peppers, to potato latkes. All home made and delicious. The Olmsted designed grounds and setting are spectacular with water views and woodland walks. The grounds are now punctuated with Christian statuary and references to the Lithuanian culture of the priests, who do morning prayers, daily mass, and evening prayers in the church extension. We were there for a memorial service. The priests offered their blessings and were helpful and caring as we grieved. The setting allowed for quiet walks and the salt water pool offered a cooling and refreshing experience without the crowds and traffic at the public beach within walking distance of the monastery. The location is central to the shops and restaurants of Kennebunkport and the ocean.
This is a wonderful place to visit and stay during summer or off season.Written August 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NHjoSaco, ME5,222 contributionsThere are several talented local artists represented at Compliments. I especially love the whimsical ceramic pieces, the colorful blown-glass objects, and the creative lamps and candlesticks. There's a lot of eclectic art but also traditional, too. The store personnel are always friendly and informative.Written December 17, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tgentry2018Hingham, MA22 contributionsMy wife and I have been travelling to Kennebunkport, ME for 26 years now, typically annually and discovered Mast Cove on our first trip there. Jean Briggs makes the world of purchasing art so very comfortable that anyone who feels they do not know how to buy art just need spend sometime with her. Each and every time we go there, she suggests she put on some coffee or maybe a glass of wine and the experience begins. From our first purchase, an Andrew Stevevich print of The Dance and a watercolor of a finch, we have such fond memories of the time with Jean as well as the art we have purchased. For anyone who enjoys art, this is a mandatory visit while in Kennebunkport.Written December 30, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Calabash StyleSunset Beach, NC98 contributionsVery nice gallery and shop - found an unusual collapsible umbrella with Monet or Van Gogh paintings. - WanderlustConnecticut335 contributionsWe enjoyed chatting with the owner for awhile and also seeing him paint, he has a workspace in the second room with his works in progress on display. Great guy and super accommodating if you would like something special done. We ended up buying two pieces. - Mj N1 contributionAfter visiting many galleries, I stumbled upon the W. Robert Paine gallery and met Mr. Paine. He showed me around his gallery and regaled me with stories about his life. His paintings are absolutely beautiful. Mr. Paine himself, is charming, kind, amazingly talented, and fun to talk with. He won me over completely. If you ever have the chance to visit this gallery, take it! Make time in your schedule for it. You won't be sorry.Written December 13, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MaineMountainOwlMaine287 contributionsAt the end of Pier Road, we found a cluster of three seafood-themed restaurants and an attended dirt parking lot. We lucked into an open space and asked to have a look around before we sought a summer weekend dinner at one of the restaurants. Much to our delight, a short, uneven path led to interpretive displays, a bench, and great views of the 25-foot (7.6 m) tall lighthouse (built 1833, renovated 2011) and outbuildings only one mile (1.6 km) offshore across a snug, boat-filled harbor. Be sure to have a zoom lens or binoculars handy to get the most out of a stop to see it. We liked all that we saw here; we disliked nothing.Written July 13, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
