It is a stunning beach with parking and toilet facilities and the icing on the cake is that it has the fantastic Iron age house on the beach which makes this beach a must do destination if you are visiting Lewis.
If you want ice-cream stands and chilled beers go elsewhere, if you want a beautiful beach, consider a trip to Lewis, but watch the weather reports.

After visiting The Temple Cafe we spent the rest of the afternoon on Scarista Beach with is undeniably stunning, we actually took wetsuits and swam with the dogs!!
We parked in the layby between the church and Scarista house and entered at the signpost for the Hebridean Way to An t-Ob beside the postbox.

Loved staying here in our camper van, the beach was our favourite & the facility's were great with lovely modern showers & toilets , very windy through the night but we still loved it.
Amazing drive that winds and takes a while but worth it for the views and honesty shop enroute in the Castle stables with fantastic local venison.

Uig Sands

Isle of Lewis

... it is this impressive statue, the inscription reads thus: “This sculpture, carved in oak by Stephen Hayward was commissioned in 2006 by Uig Community Council with the co-operation of Ardroil Grazings Committee.
We were lucky in that the sun shone and we walked from the car park, for 20 mins to a particularly deserted part of the Uig sands (you could walk for miles all round the little bays and headlands) and had a picnic.

Carloway Broch

Isle of Lewis
#11 of 72 things to do in Lewis and Harris
A short walk from the car park takes you to the building and gives way to a nice view of the surrounding area.
But be aware that it is a somewhat strenuous walk between the car park and the broch but it is only 300 yards.

Loved this place - although it is small and the museum set out in quite an unconventional way; my daughter and i learnt so much about island life and how to strive to get thw balance between nature and humanity.
This is an excellent illustration of island living conditions, There ruins of blackhouses throughout Lewis and Harris but this is in excellent shape and the peat fire is still burning!

We managed to catch the last of the light just before sundown, and saw the stones in golden hues!! There’s a great little shop, car park and toilets here so a perfect way to warm up after a day of sight seeing.
... stone circles and enjoying the distant hills and atmospheric recent ruins above the complex inlets of Loch Roag, before walking up the short hill to the avenue, stone circle and grave on the ridge of Callanish.

It was amazing to see how our ancestors lived, the grandchildren were really enthralled to see the peat fire in the centre of the room, and where the animals would have been kept.
Really brought history to life, excellent well researched restoration and brilliant dedicated guides.

I was there with my 80 year old mum, and three children aged 11,8 and 7 and we had a brilliant time feeding and petting the ducks, sheep, goats, peacocks and the most unusual hens.

From the attention to detail, to the stunning grounds and castle, to the palatial modern apartments to the affordable price, this was the PERFECT base of operations for our exploration of Lewis and Harris.

Really good couple of hours with our children (5 and 3 years old) discovering each of the new playground activities over each rise of the sand dunes.
This a well designed community play park in the sand dunes close to the beach.

The actual center has the usual Scottish gifts, but also some good books, jewelry.
#24 of 72 things to do in Lewis and Harris
A bit different to the Butt of Lewis in that you have to drive over some very narrow & windy roads to get to a small car park, then walk for a couple of Km to get there.
#35 of 72 things to do in Lewis and Harris
At the junction for Breanais/Mangurstadh you can either go straight on towards Breanais and stop at a layby beyond this juntion and walk down a well made path or go to Mangurstadh (it's a little hamlet).
Plenty of wildlife to view, and places to visit (including an Iron Age house at nearby Borstadh beach, and the Callanish standing stones).
