#1 of 23 Museums in Lewis and Harris
Loved this place - although it is small and the museum set out in quite an unconventional way; my daughter and i learnt so much about island life and how to strive to get thw balance between nature and humanity.
This is an excellent illustration of island living conditions, There ruins of blackhouses throughout Lewis and Harris but this is in excellent shape and the peat fire is still burning!

Great mix of island life and history with a part dedicated to the Lewis Chessmen - great to see six of them on the islands, the short video is really good and thought provoking.
A very well sorted museum with finds from the Isle of Lewis from all eras; lots of information of all sorts, a fascinating video, and really good educational stuff especially for kids.

Uig Museum

#11 of 23 Museums in Lewis and Harris
We spent an hour or so here, it's packed full of information on Vikings, Uig chessmen and general local history and some geology.
There is also lots of information about the area, how different communities survived over the years.

Bernera Museum

Isle of Lewis
#15 of 23 Museums in Lewis and Harris
The museum prides it self on telling the story and history of the people and land of Great Bernera and has an extensive genealogical collection for local families and crofts.
It tells the stories of local people, from the Iron Age through the Bernera crofters' riot to the bridge over the Atlantic.
