What travelers are saying
- hdempseyWashington DC1,282 contributionsIt's a little on the pricey side, but it was a nice family activity. The kids really liked seeing the wildlife both on the drive through and on the part where you could walk around.
On a hot day it was also nice to be able to do something while staying in a car with the AC on.Written August 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We watched the snake show and crocodilian showed. Conner was hilarious and entertaining. Well worth the money!Written August 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- hdempseyWashington DC1,282 contributionsYou can just drive around and see quite a bit (scenic and wildlife) or stop and do short walks, or longer hikes. We did all three scenic drives, saw wildlife, and did the hike around sylvan lake. All great. We did space out these activities over a few days but wish we had more time and energy for hiking. It seems like we did a lot, but there was still so much more.
We saw lone buffalo here and there, but we didn't actually encounter the herd. Maybe needed a detour to see them the days we were there, but ask a ranger if it's high on your list!Written August 11, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Wild Bills lucky rock that was in his boot and his gun he was shot with, and more!! this was a super fun thing to do in Deadwood!!
spend about 1-2 hours if you would like to see all three floorsWritten August 3, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Traveling MMankato, MN72 contributionsThis cemetery is beautiful and it is neat to see some of the famous graves. It is well laid out and easy to walk around. There is a pamphlet of info which was helpful. I would say this is a must stop if you are in the area.Written August 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluesBiker56Denton, TX72 contributionsThe Black Hills are Beautiful and Iron Mountain Road is a great way to see them. There are two tunnels and if you are going in the right direction both of them look directly towards Mount Rushmore. Lots of hills and twisty roads so take your time but the scenery is worth the drive.Written August 3, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lisa GAurora, IN531 contributionsWe spent several hours walking Deadwood's historic Main Street and a little bit on some of the other streets. They have maintained the look & feel of the old west pretty well. It did remind us a bit of Hollywood Blvd with all the tourists walking around and looking at everything. Parking was plentiful in the parking garages and the people working in the welcome center and visitors center were very helpful. It's a must see for any true Old West buff.Written June 24, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- chewbduWisconsin207 contributionsA very interesting museum of the history of Deadwood. So many exhibits! There are several hands on items. It not only covers Deadwood but the area, dealing with people, mining, environment, items used back in the day. It is well worth the time. All they ask is a good will donation. There are bathrooms.Written June 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- hdempseyWashington DC1,282 contributionsWe did the walk around the lake with our two small kids, and it was perfect. Calm, easy walk. They enjoyed just standing on the edge throwing stones in. It looks like there are other more difficult trails that branch off, and an option to rent boats, but for us a nice early morning walk was great. Also be aware it does look like parking may fill up as it was much busier by the time we left.Written August 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hdempseyWashington DC1,282 contributionsreally a wonderful place to visit. Our kids are 2.5 and 4.5 and LOVED it, including the short train ride. - hdempseyWashington DC1,282 contributionssee it from the car while driving through, see it from overlooks or short hikes, or long hikes...something for every fitness level which I always appreciate. We did a few short hikes with our kids but really enjoyed exploring. It must be amazing at sunrise/sunset. The kids loved completing their junior ranger booklets which we picked up at the visitor center.
I hope we have the chance to come back some day and explore more. If you happen to be passing by on 90 it's certainly worth the detour and if you're in Rapid City or the Black hills for a few days it's worth the day trip for sure.Written August 11, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Kevin Costner has done something wonderful there. A great learning experience for us.Written July 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
