This is a "must do" if you are in the area. Also, be sure to go back for the night program.. it's well worth it. Only cost is $10 for parking, and that pass is good for one year. We also really enjoyed hiking around and going to the sculptor's workshop. The Thomas Jefferson vanilla ice cream is a bit on the pricey side, but worth it also. As a side note, no pets are allowed.

We have stayed in Custer before and were so excited to come back after 10 years. Custer has so many iconic things to do and see along with wonderful wildlife. Check out the Bison, the lakes, Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse. That is just a shortlist of things to do. There is a small town to shop and eat as well.

We wanted to stop by this place to see live animals, such as bears and bison, and we were not disappointed. We loved driving through the park and seeing the wide array of animals from Mountain Lion to Bear to Elk, this place has it all. Its near Rapid City and you stay in your car and drive thru the park and see all the wildlife all in one setting.

I took Sylvan Lake for granted. We'd planned a small portion of our day to kayak and maybe do a little hiking. We should've devoted the entire day! We did kayak and canoe! We also hiked. It was too chilly to swim, but had it been warmer, we totally would've. There was so many trails and climbing opportunities. We could've fished, had we planned time for it. Plus theres a great gift shop with snacks on site and plenty of opportunity for picnics. We did rent our kayaks and canoe on site as well. The scenery was beautiful! This is a must do in Custer!

We love driving the Wildlife Loop around Blue Bell Lodge. It's about an 18-mile ride/loop thru winding roads looking at the most amazing wildlife. Mostly buffalo/bison roaming the roads/grazing the fields and coming right up to your car. There are also chances of seeing elk, ground hogs, cattle, horses, and so much more. This is an amazing loop of some of the largest animals in the USA.

Oh what a fun highway! With all the switchbacks, pig tails and the trellis log work for the roads. But the best part - the last tunnel and you see Mount Rushmore. We stopped our car and took as many photos as we could even with traffic. Beautiful highway. Definately visit it when in South Dakota.

Best part of our vacation was coming here! So much fun and so up closer to the animals! The alligator/croc show and snake show were well worth it! Riley was highly entertaining and made the shows so great!

We had such a blast here. Between the mountain coaster, zip lining, tree obstacles, jump tower, tubing and ski lift up the mountain side, the entire family enjoyed it. The staff was helpful. The activities were fun. My only recommendation is to eat outside the park or bring a picnic lunch. The food at the grill was very expensive for very little. Otherwise, it was a great time!

The park has amazing views of pinnacles and butter Some with colors of yellow and pink, others with purplish bands. We entered the north unit of park through the west entrance. After some trial and error, we drove on SD44 to Interior. There we picked up the Bad lands Loop Road. Our first stop was at the 14 mile Castle Trailhead which connects to the longer Castle Trail. The trailhead. Is very steep. We climbed about 75 feet and decided to call it. It was narrow and slippery climbing up and we knew it would be more difficu!t on the desccent. This trailhead is a good one for the young and agile. We continued along the loop road exiting the car to check out the wonderful overlooks.

Breaktaking! What an adventure on this highway. The rock formations are simply amazing. But what is so breathtaking and amazing is the tunnels. At one point I was sure I could have reached my hand out and touched the rock face of the tunnel from the car.

Take your time driving through this highway, make plenty of stops for photos! The Needles Eye Tunnel is the most fasicnating of all of them!

We went on the scenic tour. You need to book in advance. The guide was very informative and knew her subject. Lots of stairs but a good pace with stops along the way. However the caves are not as spectacular as I thought. Only one area of "shiny" calcite. Apparently the best examples can only be seen further into the caves and not on the scenic tour. Having said that if you are in the area it is worth a visit.
