Beautiful museum. We loved seeing the little house in the back. Also loved the invisible exhibit. Had never seen or heard of this type of exhibit. All the people working there were friendly and very helpful. If you are in the area it's worth the visit.

We went in February and ended up with a private tour! Aside from the beautiful home, the history behind it is very interesting. Loved our experience here. Although the down side was that it wasn't the best time for walking around the grounds. We actually did that in the summer of last year, then returned for a tour of the house.

We visited a bakery there for some kolachky and saw an inteesting meat market across the street. We added some sausage there to our baked goods.
Some stores closed to covid- still worth a look

We went to Cedar Rapids on Saturday and stopped by here. Due to COVID there weren't as many vendors that have been there in the past. It was still fun to wander around and I happened upon a merchant that I had received a gift from and so I was happy to make a purchase from her.

A real treat of an art museum. Spaceous, bright, and welcoming space. Great collection of Grant Wood, his friend Marvin Cone, and a few other highly talented Iowa artists.

After flooding in 2008, the theater was restored to its original beauty. Great chandeliers, ceilings, vintage organ. Well done.

We rented snowshoes and went snowshoeing. Reasonably priced rentals, the staff spent time explaining how to use them and put them on. We really enjoyed snowshoeing on the trails and exploring.

I did a YouTube review of this experience which you can watch on my channel Mary Beth's Midwest Adventures. There are also many other videos of fun things to do and places to eat in Iowa as well! Hope you find it helpful!

Starting with a good movie providing the overview of Grant Wood's life, the tour of the studio is interesting and shocking. He, along with his sister and mother, lived in this small space for almost a decade! He was such an innovative and creative man - amazing!

We went out on our own walking tour of the town and river frontage. There are many eateries and drinking establishments supported with parking garages but (in the area we walked around) very few stores / shops. All over the town the wonderful smell in the air from the Quaker Oats facility (oven factory) was quite enjoyable.

Very accessible museum presenting the history of the African American community in Iowa. Great exhibit about the history of housing inequity in American cities.

Very private and named appropriately. Its a great park, although a bit of a teacher hangout. Five out of Five Stars.

Stopped in Cedar Rapids for the night, this place was walking distance from my hotel. And it was a beautiful evening to eat outside. I loved craft beers and this was an opportunity to try new place to me. Besides being a place I could walk to, I wanted place that served food. The place has a fairly large patio for outdoor seating (on two levels). One warning if you sit outside. The sun hit an all glass building behind the patio and for about 15 minutes it was much brighter and warmer. One couple moved to a different table, because the person facing the buidling was blinded by the brightness. I was facing away, so I stayed put. I will admit the patio didn't have much of a view, it is between the brewery and a parking structure. But the weather was perfect, and with COVID, eating outside was more desirable. The food menu was limited, list of items more in line with beer place. (apparently the food comes from the restaurant next to the brewery). My first beer was a Vienna Lager named Cahoots ($5.75) which was an amber color rather than light and pale, but it was very tasty. I opted for chicken tenders and fries ($10) and for dessert the Russian Imperial Stout ($6) called Low Bandito. It was chewy (which if you are a beer lover you know that isn't a bad thing, but it is not for everyone.) I am glad I got to try this place.

Our group had a tour of the award winning library, built after the flood of 2008 that destroyed all the adult and reference books, but spared kids books. Lot of innovative ideas in the library including a green roof and automated book sorting. Award winner.

Our first visit to McGrath Amphitheater was for Garrison Keillor's Love & Comedy Tour. Our seats were in the Orchestra B section, row 6. The view and sound were perfect and the chairs were comfortable. Their website said there was street parking, but since this was an evening event and we are not that familiar with Cedar Rapids, we chose the closer $10 parking. The only problem was that directions said to turn on Valor Way and neither Google Maps nor Garmin GPS would show this.

Once in the parking lot, the walkways were level and well lit. The Cedar River and downtown skyline were a great backdrop. Our visit was on a perfect summer evening and influenced this review in a positive way. Had the weather been cold, too windy, or very hot, our impression of amphitheater venues might be swayed.

Its an interesting, funky little museum. I gather that most of the collection was donated by Iowa members. There was an interesting selection of Native American artifacts with items I have never seen before, as well as ones local to Iowa. Also collections of shoes, vases, pots and whatever. Good for a rainy day or when you want to do something different in Cedar Rapids. The staff is very nice, and will explain all about the Masons if you ask.
