Woodfield Mall is the largest mall in the state of Illinois and one of the largest in the country, it opened in 1971, since then it's been renovated and now has about 300 stores, specialty shops, restaurants, fast/quick food places, cafes, kiosks, stands, play area for children, Grand Court, etc. Not only Woodfield Mall is large, it is quite beautiful.

The digital directory in the mall lists all the stores and their location in the mall, although at first, it's not very easy to orient yourself in this huge shopping center, since there are various ways of walking and getting to the right store in the mall, using overpasses, escalators, or stairs. Elevators are also available.

I visited this mega mall twice in November, and now have a pretty good idea, how to explore and shop in it. The fantastic Grand Court and Ice Palace in the center of the mall and the main anchor stores -- Macy's, Nordstrom, JC Penny and Primark -- are the reference points for guests. All the high-end stores -- and actually all the stores -- are well marked, restrooms are available, and there are also many rest areas around -- with chairs and tables -- for guests to relax. But with crowds of shoppers in the mall, all these areas were packed with thousands of people.

My favorite store in the Woodfield Mall is Nordstrom -- a very spacious, well-lighted, well-appointed, ultra modern upscale store, with the top-quality merchandise and excellent customer service. You feel rested after shopping there. All other stores I visited -- and even some modern art galleries in the mall -- are also quite attractive. Service in all these stores was very polite and friendly.

During this holiday season, there are massive sales going on in the mall, and it is a perfect place for gift shopping. Practically, all the stores have been offering 40%--50% discounts during the Black Friday weekend.

Both visits were very productive and quite enjoyable, Woodfield Mall has a vast parking space, and public transportation to some other parts of the area is also available.

The mall is located in Schaumburg -- about 27 miles west of The Chicago Loop, and I-290 is just a pleasure to drive. It is estimated, that each year about 30 million people visit Woodfield Mall. No wonder, it is a great place, with excellent shops and restaurants. Plan to be back!

Happy Holidays & Happy New Year to Woodfield Mall!

Spring Valley is an amazing nature/historical park run by the Schaumburg Park District.  It is a great entertaining place for children.  The outdoor playground can keep kids busy for a long time and the Nature Center is quite educational.  Do not miss going up the tower near the Nature Center for a wonderful panoramic view of the whole complex. The Heritage Park comprises the preserved German farm which includes cabins and several farm buildings.  The walking trails are very well maintained.

It would be a doubly great time to visit Spring Valley when they have specially scheduled exhibits and historical enactments.

First time at a boomers game. No bad seats, lots of in game entertainment that is a smaller version of big leagues. Mascot races, dance troupe. Concessions are reasonable.

Schaumburg Library sponsors these amazing FREE concerts at the town square in front of the library every Monday night during the summer.

Last night was the first of the season and the band didn’t disappoint. “Brass from the Past” band had 15 members (full brass ensemble) and played hits from the 60’s thru the 90’s. They played nonstop from 6:30pm-8:15pm with no breaks. It was so much fun.

Great entertainment and a fun way to start the weeks during summer!

Always a somewhat mysterious medical practice, the museum covers the people, discovery and devices that made anesthesiology the field that makes possible daily miracles of surgical care. The museum is probably the world's best and the staff knowledgable and passionate. It's a small collection but every item has a fascinating story behind it

Fantastic home and studio tour in Schaumberg. Hard to believe these buildings were built in 1938 and are still in incredible condition. Well worth the trip out to the suburbs or a great place to go during a long layover at O'Hare. The history of the house is fascinating and the grounds are gorgeous!

Nice Native American cultural center and art gallery, with a number of art pieces for sale. The owners are also very supportive of the community, hosting the summer farmer's market in their parking lots on Friday morning, show casing local artists, and allowing local non-profit organizations to hold events, usually upstairs.

We found The Water Works and decided to give it a try during the kids' spring break. It is located in the area between Schaumburg Rd. and Golf Rd., and Salem Dr. and Barrington Rd. Coming here to this indoor water park definitely beats driving all the way up to the Wisconsin Dells. The price was quite reasonable for two adults and four children. There was plenty to do, as the park includes 3 water slides, a rapid water channel, a water playground, a diving pool, a lap pool & a gradual beach-like entry (zero depth) entry pool. It was crowded, but not overly. They have a family locker room, as well. The lockers have combination locks, much like they have on hotel safes, so they are very easy to use, lock and unlock. If you want to use the hot tub, it is closed every other Thursday, so you might want to call about that. Our only issue was the seemingly high chlorination level, but that just may have been because of the number of people. The staff was friendly and efficiently. Most importantly, the kids had a great time.

Martin Lawrence Galleries is a fine art gallery, that specializes in original paintings, limited edition graphics, sculpture. It opened in the US in 1975, and currently operates 9 galleries, including the one in Schaumburg.

Currently, the gallery presents the original paintings by the icons of modern art: Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and many other famous artists. It's very exciting to see the masterpieces close up!

I had a brief visit to the gallery, which at that time had a presentation of art works by the modern artist Liudmila Kondakova, whose works are quite memorable and show the obvious talent of the artist. I also had a chance to talk to Senior Fine Art Consultant of the gallery, who welcomed me very friendly, and told me more about the original paintings and Martin Lawrence Galleries.

The visit was brief, but very enjoyable -- it's not that everyday we can admire the artworks by the giants of modern art and the artists of our generation. Many Thanks, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

I took my mom and 1.5 y/o daughter here and it was just perfect. It was their first time in the Midwest and coming here was the very last stop of our trip.

First and foremost, the parking situation is a tad confusing as you have to park in a small parking lot and walk thru a trail to get to the farm (the trail of which I didn’t see at first because of the trees) but needless to say, when we got to the property it was just so beautiful.

They really preserve the history of this 1880s German farm. There’s a cute shop with goodies for the kids to eat, play with, and learn from. Everyone that works/volunteers there is truly passionate about this farm and it’s rich history.

It is NOT a petting zoo but my daughter has a blast seeing chickens, pigs, and cows/steer for the first time. There is also a house on the property where they preserve everything from that time period so you really step back in time when you enter the house.

This place was just so beautiful and charming. It’s free to park and free admission. I’d highly recommend stopping by for an hour or so whether you have a kid or not.

Nordstrom at Woodfield Mall has always been a great place to shop. They offer a large variety of styles and racks are nicely filled but not overly packed. Most departments are fully stocked but some departments like home and plus size women’s have minimal selections. However, they can get you anything they don’t have on the floor and they do ship it for free to your home.

Their restaurant on the 3rd floor is a hidden gem! It serves alcohol and has a culinary chef that creates delicious seasonal items. The food is really good and it’s peaceful and quiet! Everything from salads, burgers, main entrees and deserts!

They also have a nice barista offering quick bites and gourmet coffee drinks called Ebar. (1st floor directly inside the mall with seating area)

Parking is a breeze no matter what the weather is as it’s covered on the first floor. There is 2nd floor parking as well. The store is always spotless and fashion trends abound!
