We were going to be in the area and saw online Jumer's is SMOKE FREE!!! Anyone with sinus problems knows one of the worst things for sinuses is for a smoker to plop down next to you and puff away like there is no tomorrow. We enjoyed the variety of machines and the clean air. Thank you Jumer's!!

Went specifically for a family connection. My father's namesake was interned as a Confederate POW at Rock Island's POW Camp 1863-1865. Fascinating to explore the Confederate cemetary, the National Cemetary, and the area of the old POW camp. The Arsenal buildings are a treasure of architecture along a stretch of the Mississippi River.

There are lots of little gardens spread around this center. Plenty of signage to explain what we were seeing. There is a scavenger hunt for children to find different plants.
There are warning signs about aggressive red wing blackbirds. I thought it was a joke until I kept getting buzzed and hit on the top of my head by one.
There are repurposed items like shoes and tires that are now flower pots.

This is a great place to watch barges come through. Staff is very informative and helpful. You will have to go to the visitor center at the Moline gate as this is located on the Army base. Make sure you have an approved drivers license. Residents of Illinois make sure you have a real ID or you will have to have other forms of ID along with your drivers license. Overall a great stop

Went to lock #16 and had a fantastic tour. This is the first lock built on the Mississippi River. The tour is free and very informative. Interesting to see a boat with many barges going through the canal and the opening of the bridge. Highly recommend. Rating... outstanding.

This exhibit is along the main road in Rock Island Arsenal and is easy to find and visit. It is much more than the Atomic cannon - there are artillery and armor pieces exhibited as well. Some captured pieces are displayed as well.
The captioned signs explain the pieces very well.
    Take the time and stop!

The park is right on the Mississippi River and has a great bike/run path plus plenty of parking and the addition of well maintained bathrooms make it the ideal spot to start and end a long run or bike ride. There is also a play area and picnic area, so it's great for family gatherings as well.

This was an unexpected gem while we were staying in Moline Illinois. The exhibit was Manuscripts by Charles Darwin. We were totally unaware that a Manuscript museum existed. As we are from Minnesota we will visit the one in Duluth. This is a rotating exhibit and when we are in the area we will return.

A "U" shaped exhibit area with a Native American diorama around the outside and smaller displays in the center. It won't take long to see this museum highlighting Black Hawk and the Sauk and Fox tribes. There is also an impressive set of story boards on the opposite end of the lodge depicting the general history of the Civilian Conservation Corps and specifically their contribution to the Black Hawk State Historic Site. The historical site is a beautiful outdoor locale. Unfortunately, it is across the river from a major gravel pit which was very noisy during our visit.

It was raining cats and dogs and we couldn't find anything to do so stopped in. Minimal parking nearby but if you go out to the main road, there is on street parking that is close enough. There is a lot to see when you go in, sometimes a geology student is there to talk to you about various exhibits. Really cool fossils and minerals to check out. Could easily spend an hour or more if you like reading signs.

Came here to find out why Col Davenport's home was not in the city of Davenport ~ and that question and many more were answered by our tour guide Bill. He gave us around an hour long tour of the home and grounds. Bill is good at it and has been at it for around 30 years! Col. George Davenport was an Englishman who, as an injured sailor, was let go when his ship left US port. From there his life is filled with interesting stories leading up to his time in Illinois and ultimately his murder in the house he built. The Davenport House is located on an Army Arsenal and requires a pass for access onto the installation.

Nice place to take the grandkids during summer break. Reasonable price for admission and food . Plenty of shade on the hill area or get there early for a place under the umbrellas.staff is friendly and do a good job watching the swimmers.

That so many historical homes are displayed here. Large homes that are uniquely painted. Styles dating back to the 1800's. Absolutley mesmerizing!

Lots of parking, set out on the river trail going in either direction and walk (or bike) for miles and miles. Cross the bridge to the Iowa side where the trails continue. Places to sit along the way
