Perhaps because it's juxtaposed against the typical urban decay of a city like San Salvador, but entering through the metal, bullet-ridden gates and into a place of remarkable beauty and creativity is breath-taking.
A true jewel of the centro historico in San Salvador, this is a jewel of modern church architecture.

I have visited different Mayan Indian Ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula like Uxmal and Chichen Itza, but tne Joya de Ceren archeological sites are even more unique due to the southern location in El Salvador.
This site is awesome, from its serendipitous discovery to the archeological findings..and the national bird is ubiquitous here!

Huge rocks close to the sky from where you may watch a breathtaking sight seeing, cool environment, and natural sorroundings.

From the outside this is an interesting building and on the inside it is both an oasis of calm from the city centre hustle and bustle and a beautifully decorated altar and side chapels.
If you will visit downtown San Salvador, this cathedral is a must see - especially because the tomb of Archbishop Romero is in the lower level.

The Monument to Memory and Truth is in Parque Cuscatlan, which is the central park of San Salvador.
Our tour guide explained so much about the Monument, it was very sobering to understand what happened so recently in this country.
