You must stop and explore Geoffrey's art. I was incredibly moved by his photos and then the quality and uniqueness of the prints just takes your breath away. I bought a piece this weekend and can't wait to make it part of my home! Geoffrey has a beautiful eye and can really capture moments that make you feel like you are there.

Founded in 2013, the Galena Center for the Arts strives to make the arts accessible to the local rural area as well as showcase the best talent in the region in a professional art setting. Located at 971 Gear Street, off U.S. Highway 20, near Greenwood Cemetery, the center is open from 11 to 4 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It displays historical photographs of Galena and Jo Daviess County and features themed exhibits of solo artists from the surrounding region, works by artists from the local area and works by student artists. See oil paintings, watercolors, sculpture, pottery and prints. Among the artists whose work is displayed on a regular basis are John Martinson, who operates the nearby West Street Sculpture Park, photographer Alfred Mueller, Barbara Baird, Beth Bird, Gerit Grimm, Joan Grippo, Mark Skudlarek, Richard Pearce, Rick Hintze and Richard Moninski. Galena is emerging as a popular and productive art colony a la Taos and Santa Fe in New Mexico with many galleries displaying artwork from many artists living in the Galena area.

This museum tour begins with a holographic introduction by two re-enactors portraying US and Julia Grant. Then you take a self-guided tour of the museum that includes the history of the city of Galena, the Civil War with Grant and the other 8 generals from Galena artifacts. There is also a display of Galena pottery and a small display on the African-American experience. All-in-all, it's a place full of unique things from a mine shaft to a stub of Grant's cigar! Spend some time here.

If you’re a fan of iron and history… the guys you want to meet are inside. They are friendly and have stories to tell. You can buy iron made by these blacksmiths of today right inside. One guy had made a wand from Harry Potter. It was awesome:) My husband and I were so glad we stopped by! We bought a meat flipper for grilling, it was for a left handed person. I’m right handed, so we got to watch the blacksmith heat it up on the fire and bend it so it could be used for a right handed person. Friendly people. They’re there for the purpose of keeping the public informed of the old ways. There’s no pay for them, just what ever is tipped to them.

Well curated selection of work from multiple artists / media. Each artist's work is nicely displayed with an artist's bio and statement. No junk or touristy souvenirs.

Very cute little town. Very clean. Lots of places to shop and eat. Dinner at Fried Green Tomatoes was excellent! The Log Cabin was very good for dinner with large portions. Golfers like coming here. Dubuque, Iowa is a short drive with a great view of the Mississippi River.

We stopped in and bought a coffee cup for my husband..We had the pleasure of talking to Joe, who was kind enough to spend quite a bit of time explaining the process that was used to create the very unique coffee cup we purchased..It was such an education!
Joe is obviously very knowledgeable about his craft and it shows..We loved our purchase and will make sure to return in the future.
