It’s many many ramps and stairways that leads to more rooms of antiques and finds. The old school is all still intact where you actually shop and walk on the old stage with the curtains still up and everything! I found a vintage jack o lantern card board cut out and my partner found old music sheets. It’s definitely a place that you could spend a few days to really explore the entire place and take it all in. It’s just up the road from

Be sure to read the history of the Black Hawk War to understand what this fort is about and why it was built. - Expedition28918626 contributionsMy family was lucky enough to stay at the Dittmar Farm and Orchard’s Tree House during our visit to lovely JoDaviess County. This charming tree house is nestled amongst the most beautiful 150+ foot evergreens and aside a bustling creek with a hiking path nearby. The home is adorable and the perfect place for a family retreat. Our kids (1,3 & 5 yrs old) enjoyed playing up in the loft, accessible by a “tree house ladder”. The wood work and finishes in the house are thoughtfully done and the beds comfortable. The back deck overlooks the creek and a field with a fire pit (perfect for s’mores!) and the side deck in the trees; both relaxing places to enjoy playing a game, bird watching, and any other peaceful activity. We’d recommend this to any group for a tranquil getaway. We look forward to to coming again for a fall and winter visit. There’s no greater peace of mind than supporting local businesses and knowing where your food comes from, not to mention the customer service here is always on point. - Rockhellee6 contributionsNice little eclectic shop downtown. Owner(?) was very friendly and kind. Nice antiques and vintage/repurposed items. Unfortunately, we didn't find anything we needed. The prices seemed a bit steep for a lot of items, but that seems to be what you get in a small store like this. We will probably stop again if we visit the area again. There are historic sites and boutiques and restaurants. Most of all, there is an abundance of art galleries and specialty shops that produce all manner of pottery and sculpture. My wife and I love to browse through one shop after another. You never know what you'll find. But when you find it, you'll know it. Take Eshelman Pottery, for example. Located at 238 North Main Street in Elizabeth, on U.S. Highway 20, about 15 miles east of Galena. Open from 9 to 5 Monday through Thursday and 9 to noon on Friday, it is the pride and joy of Paul and Laurel Eshelman, who have been living and making contemporary functional pottery since 1988. They produce quality products in made to order fashion...clay vessels, bowls, double espresso cups, platters, trays, vases, bottles, tumblers, teapots, dinnerware and cream and sugar containers for eating, drinking, serving, pouring and arranging. If you love cotton fabrics, you will find many one-of-a-kind patterns and colors of kitchen towels and dinner napkins. They wash extremely well. I've been buying them for years and give them as gifts.
