We took the Chinatown Food and Walking Tour with York yesterday. It was fantastic way to spend an afternoon/evening! York educated us about different cuisines found in different parts of China. We went to five different restaurants and tried dim sum, Szechwan chicken with red peppers, a Chinese sandwich (which was interesting since I don't usually correlate bread and the cumin spice with China, but York explained the Xi'an region had a strong middle eastern influence due to the Silk Road access), noodles, and a Chinese dessert. The food was all really fantastic!
York also explained a lot about the Chinese immigration to the United States and their impact on the railroads, and some other interesting Chinese history regarding certain artwork and buildings during the tour. York did a fantastic job educating us, feeding us, and ensuring we were entertained with fascinating tidbits of Chinese history/culture and lots of "dad jokes" as we call them in my family (he had some ones that I am going to save, but I won't spoil the fun here)! He also was very cognizant of the different ages and fitness levels in our group. We had a woman who had some difficulty walking (perhaps due to a knee issue), and he made sure we never left anyone behind and noted all of the elevators whenever there were stairs involved.
I would highly recommend this tour to any locals wanting a taste of what Chinatown has to offer, or to anyone entertaining guests in the area. It was a great way to spend time learning and meeting new people.
