- Shlomo IJerusalem, Israel6 contributionsA good atmosphere to spend a Friday afternoon in. We were very surprised by the creativity of the local artists. We will definitely return to travel there from time to timeWritten November 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - I visited this place🇫🇷🇺🇸🇬🇷🇨🇭🇬🇧Israel35,233 contributionsPROS
• Great scenic hike
• Amazing trail with stunning scenery
• Dense lush green verdant shrubbery
• Totally isolated from civilization… but
• Very near residential neighborhood
• Completely shaded
• Half hour + from parking lot to bat cave
• Only very slightly uphill
• Appropriate for as young as 3-4 years
• Possible for older healthy and agile
• Requires no real hiking skills
• Real bat cave adventure
• Rock slide 5 minute walk beyond cave
CONS
• Access only with car
• Isolated- do not to be only ones there
• Don’t leave car at trailhead alone and unattended when no one else is there
• Keep respectful distance from Bedouin shepherd, sheep and sheep guard dogs
• Bat cave totally pitch black dark and wet and very slippery wooden steps and a grimy railing totally covered in bat droppings
• Trail is in/out w/ return on same path
MY EXPERIENCE
We went on a good easy hike/ it took about a half an hour to get to there. The cave was “closed” by the park authorities as the bats were hibernating.
It is an experience to go in there, though- in season. They’re not dangerous but they make loud sounds and squeeks and it’s dark and filthy and musky hot.
We also went to the tick slide five monies beyond the cave.
TIPS
• Go with a group
• Go when others are there & it’s busy
• Go on Friday or Saturday or the day before or the day of Jewish or Israeli national holiday
• Don’t be the only one and doing leave the car alone at the trailhead
• Consider leaving the car right at the turnover from route 3855 (so that I t can be seen by passing driversWritten May 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. • Crawl through subterranean escape tunnels and caves that were used by Jewish rebels against the gluttonous idol worshiping Roman Legion gladiators more than 1800 years ago.
• Pristine and pure and unadulterated
• Real and calming and relaxing
• Outstanding area for hiking and biking
• See real sheep led by real Bedouin shepherds who are all guarded by vicious ferocious sheepdogs.
CONS
• Totally isolated
• Unprotected

• Only accessible by car
• Protect your car
• Many speed bumps
• Sheep dogs are vicious and attack if they or the flock are approached
MY EXPERIENCE
“I visited this place” on the Israel Independence Day, when there were many people and cars.
We inhaled the pure pristine air and enjoyed the breath taking views.
We explored the intact and preserved Jewish Talmudic villages of Borgin and Etri. We went into ancient wine and oil presses and ritual baths and crawled through secret escape undergrad cave tunnel passages.
TIP
Do not come alone, and when you do come, make sure that your car is not unattended while you enjoy the site and area.

- DeanMurphy2020Orlando, FL7,757 contributionsThis incredible 2.5-acre monument is literally carved out of the limestone bedrock. More than 5,000 community names are engraved on the labyrinth of 107 stone walls. Each village/city name recalls a Jewish community which existed for hundreds of years, some of which no longer exist. (During Soviet occupation of East Germany, the Baltic States, Poland, and other countries, many of those communities were destroyed and the Soviets forced residents who survived WWII to relocate to the major cities.) Some of the stone walls tower over visitors, causing a bit of claustrophobia. The Valley of the Communities was established largely with the support of the American Society for Yad Vashem.Written April 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
