What travelers are saying
- Linda PLeek, UK239 contributionsInteresting to look at and great to people watch as they take their photos. Worth a walk to find it.Written May 28, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KGB777Singapore, Singapore41,727 contributionsThe waterfront area of Sukhumi has been well thought out with traffic kept a long way away and access reserved to pedestrians. It's possible to walk for several kilometres without having to worry about cars. Quite a few interesting statues to see along the way and good views over the Black Sea.Written December 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Sr.Seguro697 contributionsEvery place like that deserves its share of our attention since there we really feel the calmness of our world; and no matter which belief you particularly prefer.
It's a very interesting monastery with its history, despite the fact it's not so long.
The very atmosphere as inside that as around its territory is so smoothing and views are so fantastic that you almost forget about all your current day problems :).
Along all the ways to the monastery there are a lot of local merchant traders - try some local wines and fresh citrus juices, especially made from mandarins :).
Better to go there individually and in the very morning in order to avoid crowds and lack of time; at the very frontier you without any problem could hire a local taxi (just trade :)) or get a regular bus there (some about one hour and a half from the very frontier); and do not worry - the track there is not so mountainous as many people think :).
God bless you and stay happy! :)Written November 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - RodMcLeodSan Francisco, CA970 contributionsThis waterfall requires a 4x4 jeep ride over a bumpy road of a few kilometers, and then about a 15 minute walk.
The effort is worth it, however. When we were there, the falls were full, but there was still snow on the ground at the base of the falls and icicles hanging from the cliff face.Written May 24, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - KGB777Singapore, Singapore41,727 contributionsThis is just a small bronze statue of a penguin. It's one of several smaller statues along the waterfront and is easily combined as part of a longer walk in the area. Not worth going out of your way just to see this though.Written December 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KGB777Singapore, Singapore41,727 contributionsThese attractive columns are a popular place for local people to congregate and for tourists to use for pictures. Nothing particularly remarkable about them, but you might as well stop whilst walking along the waterfront.Written December 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Suvinai JBangkok, Thailand15 contributionsThe place looks a bit dilapidated to me as all the facilities seems to be abandoned for a while (been there during off season in April). The toilet was very dirty. There is not very much to see except some monuments. The best part is the view, a unique juxtaposition between the sea and the snowy cap mountain in April. We also get a chance to see dolphins near the shore. Overall, this is an ok site in Pitsunda and would be a nice place to walk and chill out.
But if you are on a tight schedule it wouldn’t be that bad to skip it.Written April 21, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Linda PLeek, UK239 contributionsVery good place for photos - and for watching other tourists take photos. Make sure you climb up the steps at the side of the waterfall to visit the abandoned railway station situated behind it.Written June 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Sam B31 contributionsNice place for a morning stroll it is so calm with fresh air and greenery. I would suggest before 8 am in August.Written July 22, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KGB777Singapore, Singapore41,727 contributionsYou can walk out to see the sea port, located right in the centre of the tourist area in Sukhumi. But it has definitely seen better days and is really not in such good condition.Written December 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- DelanA82Melbourne, Australia156 contributionsThis is a beautiful, stunning park. It's a bit surreal to see so many varieties of plants from across the world growing in an open environment in this region by the Black Sea.
I could recognise some species from travels to other continents.
Sadly many parts of it have been left abandoned and neglected due to the years of war and conflict.
Despite the ruins of some buildings around it and tragedy of everything that has gone on in the last couple of decades, walking through this park still gave me a sense of peace and tranquility, and I can just imagine how the region would have looked at it's best, and I hope the authorities, locals and others outside realise it's importance and make some attempt to restore the place to it's former glory so that it can be enjoyed by manner others for many years to come.Written April 8, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - KGB777Singapore, Singapore41,727 contributionsThis is another bronze sculpture to see as you explore the waterfront promenade in Sukhumi. This one is located close to the colonnades. As with the others, a quick look is probably sufficient.Written December 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Goofy XКурск169 contributionsThat's the visit card of Gagra! Stay and fix it with your camera! Nice views! But too many people. Nice pics in the opposite side - marble lions!Written October 30, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
