A quintessential central southern square with Band shells statues fountains and lots of green space surrounded with benches to sit down gossip and people watch.

Sope Creek is a real neat park. It is part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) federal parks along the Chattahoochee River. Sope Creek is used primarily for hiking and biking.

Today a group of 10 friends hiked 6 miles around the park. Trails are marked with maps at junctions. Highlights included mill ruins along the creek and an old graveyard in the middle of park. See pics. Medium size parking lot which gets busy on weekends and holidays. Parking fee is required here (currently $5).

Three CRNRA units connect together: Sope Creek, Cochran Shoals, and Powers Island. One of my friends said you can do a 17 mile hike if you combine all of them. Nice!

Great area and worth a stop. My favorite CRNRA unit is "Island Ford" .... but all of them are worth a stop at least once if you are in the area.

What a surprise! This visit was so enjoyable. At one time Marietta was more significant than Atlanta and the museum reflects that interesting history, but it's fun too. The displays are all enjoyable and much more expansive than I expected. A former headquarters for Gen Sherman, there were civill war exhibits but also women's rights, doll houses, depictions of life in the US 1940's on, the role of Bell Aircraft in the area, subsequent wars, etc. The visit was made memorable by the stories of Lynn-who took our very reasonably priced ticket and shared her enthusiasm and love of this area with us.

A wonderful place to watch a show, they are so helpful, and concessions stand is fully stocked. A perfect small town gem only 10 miles from Atlanta. Wow.

The park is nice and clean. However, some of the staff are rude and non-welcoming. We had a question and the employee made eye contact and just turned around and ignored my friend. I noticed similar instances happening to other people.

The lines for the rides were not too long and the ride itself were good.

This afternoon I visited the Gone With The Wind Museum located at historic Brumby Hall. The entrance is from the parking lot at the Hilton Conference Center next door. There is a small, but excellant collection of original memorabilia from the book and the movie.
Brumby Hall is an event center and the grounds had several different gardens.

This is an amazing cemetery full of Confederate soldiers.
Established in 1863, this was originally the resting place for 20 Confederate soldiers killed in a train wreck north of Marietta. It is the resting place to over 3,000 soldiers from all 13 Confederate states plus Maryland, Missouri, and Kentucky. There’s also a area where slaves are buried but sadly there’s no headstones for them.
There’s an actual 6 pound canon that was using the Civil War here as well. This is a wonderful historical cemetery that should be seen and visited by all. Highly recommend.

Awesome, we came here as a spur of the moment thing and 25 dollars for an hour of glow in the dark axe throwing with a free beverage is great. Staff were fun and informative. We felt safe throwing axes but also free to dance and vibe. Beer was tasty and bartender was nice. 10/10 will go back

We held a small outdoor reception in the gazebo. We managed to distance and all felt safe. The staff was very helpful and the setting helped make it a wonderful baby shower.

After living in the New York City metropolitan area for over forty years and been exposed to both Broadway and off-Broadway theater, I did not expect very much from this regional playhouse. Community theater tends to be less than stellar and features “local” talent who may or may not have had professional training. After attending a production of Guys and Dolls today at the Lyric Theatre housed in Cobb County facilities, I received a rude awakening. This was a professional production all the way. This included use of technology, set design, costumes, lighting, Choreography and acting. Kudos go out to all the directors, especially music and choreography. While there wasn’t a pit orchestra, you didn’t miss a beat and the recorded music was on point. My wife and I are looking forward to Pippin. Break a leg!

A wide range of fresh produce, but much more: dogs, knife sharpening, live music, honey, fresh cut flowers, potted plants, animal rescue, Glover Park, beauty aides, pastries, breads, prepared foods, Strand Theatre, restaurants and people watching. A lot of booths/tents are put up in the one block street on the North side of Glover Park/Marietta Square and farmers and vendors from the North half of Georgia come sell their products and services. It is a great idea well done. Parking is no longer free unless you find a rare spot open along the street or limit your stay to 30 minutes or less in the City parking garage. However, the City parking garage is affordable. This event every Saturday morning can be either a quick stop for fresh fruits and vegetables or a full family outing. The adjacent Glover Park is a great place for children’s to play, adults to visit and chill and dogs to visit. See photos without showing close ups of people’s faces once posted.

If you've been to Arlington or other National Cemeteries, you know the moving experience it can be. Marietta, while certainly not as big, gives a similar sense. With patriots buried here from the nearby Civil War battles through our nation's other wars, and veterans passing since, this is worth a visit. Full or nearly full, they've opened another up in Canton, Georgia, but this one definitely has the historic impact on top of everything else.
