- Tina NFort Wayne, Indiana, United States4 contributionsBeautiful. Trying to decide whether to retire in Tavares. Leaning towards … yes. Small community which I’m used to and appears quiet and peacefulWritten August 27, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Delton PLeesburg, FL7 contributionsBeautiful park on the edge of Lake Harris with a nice nature walk along an elevated path through a swamp-like wooded area (beware the spiders!) just down from the large fishing pier and boat launch at the edge of the lake, along with a spacious covered pavilion, large areas for sand volleyball and other sports, kids play area, plenty of parking, etc. This was our second visit after having a cookout / picnic for teachers and staff at our elementary school in Leesburg during the 2022-23 school year.Written June 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The first reviewer gave quite a lot of detailed information about location, hours variety of gardens etc so I won’t repeat it here.
I’ll just say this: we were staying in Tavares for a few days and this garden answered so many questions we had about the various Florida Friendly Plants we’d seen while traveling around Central Florida (while avoiding getting anywhere NEAR Disney.) Actually we visited twice: the first time for about an hour, then the next day we got sandwiches and came back for a picnic in the Rose Garden before we headed to the airport in Sanford.
I had tried to call ahead to ask if that was ok, but nobody was answering the phone. Honestly, I don’t know if you’re allowed to bring in food but we very carefully packed out everything we had brought in.
That little gem of a garden was one of our highlights of this whirlwind trip to escape Wisconsin Winter!Written November 13, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Deer 🦌 Island fits the Bill!
Down from the north for a few golf days we took a flyer on a course outside Orlando. The ride was easy, and the scenery at arrival was very nice. But then we met the staff…they were even better. Wonderful group of people. Starter was very informative…especiallly with his assessment that “you better have your game on”. Water on every hole and it continuously comes into play. Fairways were in good shape and not too closely cropped. Bunkers offered a challenge but fair. Greens were a tad off only due to treatment but well maintained and challenging. Had a great day. Will return next trip with the course knowledge stored from this first time play.
Made a friend on the first hole just sunning himself just over the pond. Probably about 9 feet but he was uninterested in joining us. Wild life throughout, gator etc, but the most enigmatic were the local thieves…a couple resident crows that swoop in on #7 and 12 to clean up your carts. We were warned…and they were efficient. Definitely worth the trip, money, and a return next year.Written April 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great access to the chain of Lakes. We can recommend boating down the Dead River and Dora Canal. We saw various different types of animals including several alligators. The kids loved it. Did some watersports on the lakes, which were ideal for boating. Would certainly boat in this area again.Written May 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Lee SErie, PA90 contributionsVentured out just yesterday evening for the first time to listen to live local musicians, have dinner and a drink. Had a great time! They have great sandwiches, beer, wine and you can also get fresh strawberries, blue berries and other items picked right on the property.
They also provide a hay ride and have other activities for adults and kids including jump houses.
The Canteen - as they call it - is an open air bar and eating area that can be closed in inclement weather and wide open when it's nice - as it was last night. We listened to three different acts which are really great local talent and had an all-around perfect evening. The property is located on 1,500 acres of farmland and forest and even the drive back to the eating and entertainment makes you feel like you are miles from anywhere, even though it's easy to get to.

We went with our three kids 6 & under. The first half of the trail was great with just a couple of wet/muddy spots to navigate around. We were able to pick & eat several blackberries along the way which was super fun for the kids.
Once we reached the pond covered picnic tables & garbage can available) the trail back got a LOT muddier with large puddles that were hard to navigate. We pulled branches aside & went around most ending up with slightly wet shoes. We were totally prepared for this because we have been experiencing daily heavy rains. Just keep this in mind if you decide to take a walk.
My husband had our 2-year old on his shoulders & was looking up to go under some branches. He almost stepped on a large black snake that was trying his best to get out of the way. Be sure to watch where you’re stepping!
It took us about 40-45 mins to walk the loop. We didn’t really stop too much to look around except to pick the blackberries.
If you’re local, you should take the time to check this place out!Written May 29, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
