- Leslie H2 contributionsMy husband and I contacted Captain Mark, after a Google search, late evening during our vacation to ask about availability for a scalloping charter during scallop season. Captain Mark responded immediately with his phone number and availability. Captain Mark was very easy to communicate with and easy to locate at the dock with a reasonable price for a private charter, gear included (if you are a germaphobe, bring your own snorkel). Captain Mark's boat was clean and ready to go as soon as we arrived. Captain Mark knew right where to take us to find the most scallops. He got in the water with us to show us how to move about, find, and pick up scallops. Once we got the hang of it, he turned us loose. Captain Mark let us keep any scallops he found as well! Once we were done collecting the scallops, Captain Mark took the time to shuck our scallops for us (with little help) while still on the water. My husband learned how to shuck scallops from Captain Mark. All that was left to do was take our bag of shucked scallops home with us and cook them. Yum! A local sportsmen who grew up in the Port St Joe area, he's highly knowledgeable not just about the fishing but also about the marine life in general and has a deep understanding of the marine biology of the area--his mom was a marine biologist as well. Extremely knowledgeable about the local history as well, great fun to listen to his stories. He's fully committed to finding fish and helping his guests land them. We've been on multiple trips with him and never failed to catch fish. Most importantly though, we always come away with more knowledge and a deeper appreciation for the ecosystem and sea life of the area. Capt. Lee was professional and patient, and his knowledge of the waters made it a great morning. We saw rays, dolphins, a turtle, a shark, and maybe spinner sharks! The lunch was great too! We had three kids and he made sure they had a wonderful time. But more importantly, he is a kind, patient and extremely helpful guide. Lots of fun. And lots of fish. He uses a simple, open boat for the bay trip. The bigger boat is for offshore. He runs an excellent charter, very organized. He was patient and comical and made sure we hit different spots to be successful. - DaBrownManNashville, Tennessee95 contributionsCaptn Chris was top notch. We took the AM Half day trip . We decided on top water and went for some trout. We caught plenty of trout however most were under size by about 1/4 inch or less so had to give it back to the fish gods. He provided everything needed, was very informative. He even let us bring the electric chicken (which was fire for them trout)! Well Captain Fred makes you feel like family.
