We had a fabulous time at Discovery Cove! We purchased the dolphin swim + two parks tix, the ultimate animal experience, and the premier photo package. I waited for sales before purchasing any tix. You have 14 days to use your tickets for other parks. We went to Sea World one day and DC the next. Â
We checked in at 7am and met our guide (Jocelyn) for the day at 7:15. We (two of us) were paired with a family of four for our ultimate animal experience. Once everyone was checked in, we headed to breakfast (we didn’t know if we would have time to eat breakfast so we ate beforehand, would be cool if DC posted an example agenda for this experience. As we walked to breakfast we were impressed with how clean and nice everything is after being open since 2000!Â
Our ultimate animal experience went like this:
·         Breakfast – buffet style and plenty of tables. Jocelyn gave everyone time to finish their breakfast and gave us a chance to chit chat with her.Â
·         Wetsuits - after breakfast we went to get our wetsuits. The guy at the wetsuit hut was great! Got us in the right size the first time! He doesn’t ask, he just looks at you and gets the right size. After we wiggled into our wetsuits and put our stuff in lockers we headed to the grand reef.Â
·         Grand Reef - we didn’t snorkel we just had a short one on one with a DC person in a closed off area of the reef. She talked to us about a few of the animals in there with her. This was the strangest part of the experience. Not sure if we were wasting time or what? We didn’t ever get the “exclusive, private, guided snorkel session in the Grand Reef prior to park opening” that is listed on the website. I wasn’t upset about this because it was chilly that morning and I wasn’t sure I was ready to be in the water.
·         Flamingos - stopped and checked out the flamingos on the way to the otter area. They are neat to see so close.
·         Otters - the other group of ultimate animal experience folks joined us for this. They lead you into the area and rope it off so others can’t come in. They let the otters into their enclosure for the day and you get to watch and ask questions. Cute little things.
·         Monkeys – you can swim or walk (we chose to swim). It was chilly the morning we were there, but we were able to see two monkeys. A DC person talked about them and answered questions.
·         Aviary – the aviary is cool if you like birds. You get a little cup of food and walk around and feed the birds. They are very friendly but there were a few intimidating looking ones.Â
·         Special meet-and-greets – I was hoping to have one on one with an armadillo, but we got an anteater, but she was cool. Neat to see one up close and to pet her. We also got a meet and greet with a little owl (no touching him). They talk to you about both animals and answer questions. Jocelyn knew I wanted to see an armadillo so as we were walking from one excursion to another, she saw one (out at the animal experiences they have around DC through the day) and took us over to check him out.  Â
·         Behind the scenes – we got to see (and smell) where the dolphin food is prepared and to learn a about their care and feeding. We saw a board with all the dolphins listed with their age and weight. This was cool as there are some old and some big dolphins there.Â
·         Dolphin swim – this was way cooler than I expected! Two other guests joined us for this (so a total of 8 of us for this interaction). Rose was our dolphin (she was around 500lbs, one of the biggest females they have there) and Jocelyn was also our dolphin liaison. Your dolphin comes over to your groups area of the dolphin lagoon and Jocelyn talked a bit about dolphins. Rose did some tricks for the group and then each person gets to hold on to her and she takes you for a short ride. So much fun and she is so gentle. There are other groups in the lagoon doing the same with other dolphins. After this interaction everyone gets out of the lagoon.
·         Enhanced second dolphin swim – after everyone clears out from the regular dolphin interaction, they ask the ultimate animal experience folks to come back in (so we were back to our original group of 6). This time we got to interact and get pictures with two dolphins. You also get to take another ride but this time the dolphin is on its back. Both dolphin experiences were so much fun. No, you don’t get a lot of time out there with them, but you also have to keep in mind the dolphins attention span and their willingness to do this interaction. They switch out the dolphins all day and the trainers know them so well they can tell when the dolphin isn’t in the mood, and they don’t ask them to do an interaction with guests. This concluded our ultimate animal experience.
·         Notes – you can stop and use the restroom or grab a drink at almost any time during this 5-hour experience. Ask questions! We asked so many questions I thought Jocelyn would tire of us, but she didn’t. Jocelyn was great and did such an awesome job for our animal experience!Â
After we were released to be on our own, we had lunch. All the food is served buffet style so eat as little or as much as you want. We both enjoyed the food and had no issues with any of it. After lunch we did the wind away river. Even if you swim well, I suggest you get one of the provided floats as the water goes from shallow to 8 feet and it takes time to go around the whole thing. And yes, the waterfall is harsh but it’s to prevent the birds from flying out of the aviary.
Next, we got snorkels and explored the Grand Reef. It was a bit crowded but still plenty of room to maneuver. You have to wear life vests but there are some very deep areas in the grand reef so it’s probably for the best.  You are swimming with tropical fish and some HUGE rays. Some that weigh 300lbs! They were scary at first, but they just glide around and are super cool to swim with! We really enjoyed the grand reef!
It looked like it might rain so we decided to change out of our wetsuits and do some other things. They have showers with body wash, shampoo, and conditioner for guest use. We decided to go choose our photos for our photo package so that would be out of the way. Then we went to this cute little bar that has stools and swings (at the bar). It’s next to the pizza area. Beer and wine are included in the price. We purchased pina coladas. I don’t recall the price being outrageous (we didn’t buy the drink package). We tried the pizza while we sipped on our pina coladas, and it was not bad.Â
Our suggestions for people going to DC: buy tickets when they are on sale (they have a lot of sales thru the year), take water shoes, take waterproof phone cases (we bought two for $10 on amazon and the same ones were $30 each at DC), get wetsuits if the temps are chilly (this is probably the only way we were able to enjoy all the water parts as it was a chilly day), and buy the photo package (wait for a sale). I wasn’t sure at first, but you really don’t want to spend your entire day trying to take pictures and you aren’t allowed to take your own pictures at the dolphin swim. We got so many awesome pics to commemorate our experience from the DC photographer. We were very glad we spent the extra money to get photos of our experience. The premier package includes pictures during the small mammal meet and greet and both dolphin swims. At the very least get the digital picture package!Â
The DC guest relations folks that answer emails are awesome! They respond within 24 hours and I had a lot of questions ahead of time!Â
Make sure you ask DC trainers and everyone questions! Did you know that dolphins have belly buttons?? We saw them! We will definitely go again!Written January 15, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Found the app very helpful for navigation and showtime! Don't sit near "soak zone" in cool weather as you'll be soaked! Grandkids learned the hard way! Roller coasters were highlight for grands
Dolphins and orcas were amazing. The sea lion show needs a complete revamp with NEW show it was a dud. Arrive early to get seats at shows. Felt they could do more to enhance educational components of critters throughout park, my opinion only.Written January 17, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We anticipated considerable people because it was the Sunday of President's Day Weekend and it was rather warm. Not even close. With the possible exception of a two-minute wait for the crush'n gusher, we rode every slide. Even their "drop slide" isn't as thrilling as those at "big water parks," and there's a decent selection of slides for the younger crowd. Although some of the benefits were not there, the lazy river is pleasant, lengthy, and soothing. Everything else appeared to be in decent condition, though, and the meal was pleasantly delicious.Written January 3, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. First treasure was the Christmas decorations, which were great photo ops.
Next surprise was meeting a volunteer who came to feed the swans. She told us about their romantic history (they are monogamous) and how they they are monitored and cared for.
Third wonder was the farmer's market, which takes place on Sundays. We sampled bakery treats (had gluten free), drank fresh coconut juice, and ate amazing paella and tacos. We couldn't make room for the tempting Ethiopian food.
Also, a stop at the playground.

The different “world” installations were spectacular and the experience was perfect with audio, visual, and special effects like fog and movement. - psudinoWeehawken, NJ4,490 contributionsThis castle is an icon. Beautifully well made and smartly made to avoid ruining the magic. When the castle was originally built, it was designed to top out inches below the height that required FAA aircraft warning lights. It certainly looks better without a giant blinking light distracting us from the world's best fireworks show.Written January 9, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ryan OHyannis, MA17 contributionsI mean... it's a tree. What else did you expect?
Light shows are amazing on it, but the park closes so early you don't get enough time to spend seeing it!
Overall, this tree is a good decoration piece!
The show inside, however? NOT.Written January 17, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Lacie ROrlando, FL542 contributionsNO TOUR.
I was not on a tour.
I live locally, I drove over, paid the fees and went up on the wheel.
It was WAY overpriced for a few minutes in the wheel, however, it was, admittedly cool with some fun views. (Hence my pics.)
Not sure I'd do it again, but glad I did it once!Written September 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - David POrlando, FL141 contributionsReview of the privately-guided, pre-paid VIP expedition (NOT Kilimanjaro Safari ride). This was a fun excursion. Both of my young adult children really loved it. The trek begins with getting fitted with a harness, a headset (to listen), a complimentary aluminum water bottle, sunglass strap and phone strap. You walk on some back trails until you get to the interpretive stops. All the while the guides are providing interesting info about the park right to your ear (I thought the headsets were a great feature for the tour). Safety is paramount, so they are constantly checking your gear. There were specific stops to see the Hippos and Crocodiles where you would attach your harness and peek over the edge to see the animals. There were also a couple of cable and wood bridges to cross over the streams and crocodiles.
The tour continues as you board a special open air truck and tour the savanna, getting a little closer to the animals than on the safari ride tour. Here the trucks would occasionally stop for more detailed info on the animals and Q&A. Next you head to a patio dining area overlooking the savanna where an African themed meal is served along with the ever popular Disney POG juice. After this break, its back on the truck for a couple more stops before returning back to the departure dock.
Also included are several photos taken by the guides.
I’ll admit it is a bit pricey, but if you have the means it is an experience one won’t soon forget and the kids will love.Written December 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Also, where's Bluey? There are many theories where to position yourself for the best views. Our Disneyphile friends encouraged us to be in the middle of Main Street because there is also a light show on the main street buildings. So besides the castle backdrop, you get the main street backdrop for what is arguably the best fireworks show on Earth.
However, as some little kids kept asking, why wasn't Bluey part of the fireworks show? I'm curious if that will happen too now that Bluey is becoming more integrated with Disney Parks this year.Written January 9, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The combination of sharp turns, sudden drops, and darkness makes this ride a truly exciting experience. The wait time can be a bit frustrating, usually around 60 minutes, but it’s not too bad. The tunnel is well air-conditioned, making the long wait a great way to escape the midday heat. Also, Lightning Pass is a great option for this ride. Overall, our group was really excited about this ride. We ended up riding it three times in a single day — twice with Lightning Pass and once in the regular line. In my opinion, the front seats were better and made the ride much more enjoyable.Written August 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KC RRaleigh, NC136 contributionsOur first visit to this long running dinner show was probably 35 years ago, and it’s just as much fun now as it was then. The players were enthusiastic, if over-the-top corny, but that’s the show, pure and simple. The food was just great. Not Michelin star quality by any means, but other overly critical reviews are just looking for something to grouse about. We were especially impressed with how they accommodated our granddaughter with severe food allergies. I would have rated it 5 stars if we had better seats this time around.
We especially enjoyed have a pre-show drink in rocking chairs on the adjacent porch and the water taxi to and from the Magic Kingdom and Contemporary Resort.Written December 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
