- nealkgolf1 contributionI went to my first Academy of Golf 2-day school with Fred Griffin in 2014 and have been coming back twice a year since (last time in May of this year). WORLD CLASS. Most comprehensive yet understandable approach to the entire golf game that I have ever experienced and I’ve been playing for over 40 years and certainly have had my share of instructors and schools. Fred has the unique ability to bring the highest level of quality instruction and present in terms that can understood by a high handicapper or a tour pro – I’ve seen this with him on the lesson tee. I’ve introduced several business associates to Fred for golf schools and all have had the same positive experience as I have had. On our recommendation, one of my customers, the management group for an NBA and NHL team, took a large group of their sponsors to the Academy of Golf for a 2-day school and outing with Fred and his staff and every person raved about the quality of the facility and the professionalism of the instruction. The Academy of Golf is the best teaching facility I’ve ever seen – it includes 3 practice holes! Fred uses state of art equipment for swing analysis, club fitting and putting instruction. For the last 4 years, we’ve used Fred to give a clinic and do a swing analysis for each of our customers at our corporate golf outing. And we’ve brought Fred in to do the same at the sponsor outings for 2 of our area’s professional sports teams. Would highly recommend Fred Griffin and the Academy of Golf to give you the foundation to take your game to where you want it to go. - Elizabeth K1 contributionA very nice golf course recovering from a hurricane- some fairways were pretty bare and a couple of greens had some damage but David who was our starter gave us all the pointers we needed and was a great help.Written November 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - snoopydooFlorida250 contributionsThe price was right ($6 per person on Groupon) but where are their eyes?!!! Please replace their eyes. You’re scaring the children.
Many of the greens need to refelted. They might need to rename this place Ghetto Gator Golf. I’d also like to know where the gators go once they get too big to be the cute road side attraction gators… 🤨
There’s definitely better mini golf in the area, but if using Groupon, I don’t think there’s cheaper. It just depends on what your priorities are.Written July 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I played the redesigned North,South, East course for the first time yesterday. While it did not disappoint and was in great shape, I left feeling that I had lost an old friend. Yes, they did keep some of the great holes but redesigned them to be more forgiving in my opinion and easier for the average resort golfer. They say "nothing lasts forever" and that is true when it comes to Grand Cypress transitioning to Evermore. What I liked most about Grand Cypress is gone now. It was truly a golfer's resort with a great clubhouse and circular bar overlooking two great finishing holes coming in on the North and South courses to a dual green. Some of the absolute best holes on North/South (Par 3's #8s I think) were done away with many years before Evermore started construction. I never understood that and the property where they were is still fenced off all these years later. After finishing the round with friends we went into one of the new Evermore places adjacent to the temporary pro shop and had lunch and watched and heard kids playing in the new huge Lagoon. It's impressive what Evermore has done having invested 2B dollars! Having said that I would have preferred sitting at the old Clubhouse Bar settling bets and reflecting on the round.
In my opinion the property transitioned from a great affordable golf getaway that catered to golfers, to a mega family resort where golf and golfers are one of many priorities' vs the main priority. I've played hundreds of rounds on all of the courses and it still is enjoyable yet not nearly as affordable as in the past.
I will definitely continue to enjoy the Cypress and Links courses but feel like the place does not have the intimacy and charm that it once did. However... there is a strong toxic disinfectant smell that permeates the lobby, the helpful man who wanted to help with our bags, and wafts into the 1st floor hallway and indoor dinner dining area. One of the employees literally took and sprayed it liberally across the entire check in area ... while i stood by the doorway with a scarf over my face telling her the smell was too toxic and gave me a severe headache. As a result, we were not able to have maid service and thankfully were able to eat all meals outside. It is the reason we will not be able to return however... and we would have returned for sure...Written January 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WesleyMCPAMissouri City, TX1,071 contributionsThis is a very well maintained course. Greens and fairways are in excellent condition. While I’m glad we played the course, there are couple of reasons we probably wouldn’t play again. Nothing that can be done and this is very subjective, but it’s a hard course. Really not a criticism, just a fact.
Not friendly for the average golfer. So much water in all the wrong places. It’s a beauty, but for me, I’m not a good enough golfer for it to be enjoyable. Because of this, when you are behind the same kind of golfer, play is extremely slow.
Here’s the part they could fix…….speed the slow players up. Marshall comes around but is apparently not willing to confront the extremely slow golfers. We were on a 5 hour pace. It was miserable. They were hacking up the course and looking for EVERY single ball.
Friendly staff, beautiful course. Play it once. Bring extra golf balls. Lots of water and other opportunities to lose golf balls.Written July 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Friendly yet professional staff, excellent practice facility and immaculate course. The only disappointment was my game didn’t quite match the course quality. There were 4 of us and we had a great time.Written December 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- SamMiddletownMiddletown419 contributionsFirst time for us. We checked in, paid our bill. We were treated very well. Being new to the sport of Golf, I did not know what to expect. Our day went well. If in the area, might give the course another try. Over all the course was in good shape when we played.Written November 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WellcoFramingham, MA6 contributionsBest course in the area. Played RCGC on a buddy trip rounds and this venue was top shelf in all respects. Wow!Written March 29, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Bob LSuffolk, VA3 contributionsWe enjoyed the course and the views. The women's tees are much too long for average women golfers. A new forward tee is needed! 1 par 5 was 470 yards for the women! That was probably an anomaly as the forward tea look to be rested that day. Nevertheless, in general the women's tees were too long for average women golfers.Written October 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - deks8Edinburgh, UK12 contributionsPlayed Shingle Creek early one morning of our holiday. We went off the blue tees which were ok for a holiday round. The starter built the course up to something it really isn’t. It’s a good day out on a good course but Augusta it ain’t. I would happily play it again and would enjoy it every bit as much but would probably go off the blacks to make it more challenging. FYI I’m a 6 handicapper who drives the ball around 250 yards. Give this one a go - you shouldn’t be disappointed.Written July 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Yves JTampa, FL478 contributionsI've only played on two Par 3 courses. This one was incredible. At first, I wasn't going to play here. The price was much higher than some of the courses I play in Tampa. I'm glad I gave it a shot.
It's about $10 to play the 9-holes a second time. So I went for it. The pace was great. The course was manicured. The greens were both fast and medium. There are a few holes where water will come into trouble but it's a fairly straightforward course. I enjoyed it better than the Disney courses.
The groundkeepers were phenomenal and professional.Written July 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I don't think I'd return due to the location (I'll explain further down), but it was of a good standard overall.
The good
- We were really impressed by the setting; it felt relaxed, smart and comfortable.
- The kitchen appliances were modern and slick and the kitchen felt really well equipped for our stay.
- The bed was huge and really comfortable (and I'm very picky!).
- There was always plenty of parking.
- The balcony view was nice, over the golf course. We liked to watch the golfers with a cold drink after a busy day at the parks.
- The showers were nice and the provided toiletries were of a good standard.
The ok
- The main pool. The pool itself was nice enough but the slide was a bit of a let down really as you kind of had to push yourself down it. The attendants also wouldn't let my son on it unless we'd 'signed in' every time we went which was annoying. The pool site bathroom was also a bit worn.
- Housekeeping - they did a good enough job but kept taking our towels without replacing them, so we had to go over to reception, which meant either a long walk or getting back in the car, then a long wait in the queue.
- The TV guide didn't work so we had to write our list of the channels to figure it out. Maybe we were missing something? A written guide would probably help this.
-Maybe this is a cultural thing, but there seemed to be far too much 'bathroom' for the room size? Two big bathroom areas, with two showers and toilets seemed excessive really.
The bad
- Despite being advertised, there was no convenience store on site. One day we ran out of water and I didn't want to drive to walmart so we asked in reception where the shop was and they said there wasn't one anymore. The lady did bring us some complimentary water which was nice, though I really think you should have a shop on site.
- The absolute worst part of the stay was the traffic near the location. To get to disney and pretty much anywhere you needed to navigate the busy intersection of the 192. Coming back from Disney we needed to quickly cross over all lanes to get over to the left to turn off for the hotel road (N Old Lake Wilson), and these roads were always packed, with very aggressive drivers. This may not be a problem for some, but when you're driving on an unfamiliar side of the car and road, in a rental car it became at times extremely stressful, to the extent that I'd change my plans to not have to navigate that bit of road. It's a shame as the hotel was lovely, but I wouldn't stay there again for this reason.Written July 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. To be honest I think it is overpriced especially when compared with other courses in the area.
