We truly loved our visit to the Florida Botanical Gardens. It is a 182-acre (74 ha) botanical garden located in Largo, Florida. The park showcases flora, fauna, and natural resources in motivational surroundings that promote environmentally friendly techniques.
Like the Heritage Village, which is part of the same property, admission and parking are both free. On our visit, we parked in Lot 2 and immediately crossed McKay Creek, which had a number of birds and turtles for us to enjoy.
The idea of the gardens started in 1991 when the Cooperative Extension Service proposed the founding of a new outdoor learning center. The plan gained support from the Pinellas County Commission, which pledged $1 million and 13 additional acres for the new facility.

The Pinellas County Heritage Village was delightful and educational. The village has a wide variety of historic buildings and artifacts that give an excellent overview of the settlements in Penellas County over the past two centuries. Everything is carefully and accurately restored, including a general store, a repair shop with vintage cars, a school house, the McMullen-Coachman cabin, a train station and a church. Plus a variety of furnished houses and other accessible spaces. Plus it’s free! An enjoyable and informative experience.

What a nice hidden park! We stayed in Indian Rocks Beach and I happened across the park while jogging. I didn't visit all of the park, but there is a nice trail walkway that leads to my favorite part - a raptor exhibit with eagles, vultures, and owls.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
We stopped at Yellow Banks Groves nearby for an orange/vanilla soft serve - highly recommended as a cool-down after visiting the park.

Wow! What an amazing playground Here! It is large & fenced. The ground is padded artificial turf. It is shaded most of the day, which is really nice in the FL sun & heat. Separate, yet close together,Little people & older play areas. Our grands loved all of the climbing areas & I was impressed with the adult & child swings. Shaded picnic tables are plentiful & restrooms are located just outside the fence. Also out fence is an area with adult workout machines. Definitely a 10/10!

Pinellas trail is awesome. We walk/bike it every day. Depending on what you want to do from just enjoying the trail or going to Dunedin or Tarpon Springs- it’s such a great piece of this part of Florida. Great exercise- safe-beautiful

Be careful! I read another review and it said there’s a nice path around a lake, takes 20 minutes. We ended up on a path that took way longer than that and once you’re headed around the lake, you have to make it all the way or turn back. So, take a picture of which lot you parked in and drop a pin so you can readily get back. The GPS does not show the entire path around the lake we went around. That said, we saw lots of unique birds! We used the free Merlin Bird Id app and it helped us to see some Monk Parakeets, an invasive species. It also helped me to know we saw a wood stork, which are uncommon. We also a common gallinule, also really neat. Worth the trip! Signs tell you there’s alligator, but we did not see any. It also said there were snakes, thank God we didn’t see any of those! I did spot some turtles on a log in the lake though!

We saw a lot of birds, tons of large turtles and friendly inquisitive squirrels.
Very nice park with a variety of trail loops.
Good for dogwalking or biking, but be alert to bikes coming up fast behind you if walking.
Note that there is little shade and we saw no restrooms.
Enjoyable hour or two of walking.
    Free admission and free parking.

Such a fun family experience. Kids loved all the water features. Plenty of lounge areas for all. Plentiful and friendly lifeguards stationed throughout. Would highly recommend.

Very nice family oriented park focusing on family activities or a just plain nice walk. The lake is beautiful and full of life with water birds and fish. Highly recommend this wonderful park for a family outing or a just plain walk in the park.

Great fun experience here with grandchildren. Very pleased with the age range of activities. Attendant Sami was extremely helpful organizing the children with activities. Safety first was her focus and the kids loved her spirit. Thank you Miss Sami!

This is always a rewarding place to pack a coffee for a stop at the bench or picnic table. Many different birds, especially water birds abound and the pond has fish, turtles and a gater. The plaques throughout the park are old and very hard to read - check the one by the entrance for best information.
