This is a former home of Harry S. Truman turned into a museum as he made 11 trips to this home in Key West, Florida. This museum is very interesting and educational as it looks at his private life behind the scenes. There are different tours available. Our tours guide was very knowledgeable sharing fascinating stories of Truman's life in Key West. His presidential limousine is on display outside for picture taking and available for a ride with the purchase of a different tour. There is a very nice gift shop. Worth the visit.

Outstanding! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit in particular because it is so well furnished with items from the day it was decommissioned. It tells the story of life on the sea for the Coast Guard.

The 88 steps to the top of the lighthouse are not particularly tough and you are rewarded with nice views from the top. The Keepers Quarters make for an interesting visit.

Great old lighthouse and museum. The view from the top is worth the climb. The museum has some very nice exhibits and the grounds are nice kept.

The bad reviews are people expecting shiny cleaned up things and chests of treasure. If you have a true and realistic interest in Florida shipwrecks and artifacts then you will enjoy this museum.

Very friendly staff, very cool artifacts at a budget friendly price. It’s a great way to spend a little time if you have downtime between bigger and longer activities.

Change inevitably comes with time, and after many decades the heirs to the Porter family sadly closed the legendary family museum for tours and sold the Key West Heritage House in 2010. But the good news is that the property is preserved by a new owner in its authentic beauty and is currently privately maintained. The museum does not have regular hours at the moment, but may open its doors again for tour with a nominal donation.

With change, new doors always open, and you now have the unique opportunity to stay in a famous family residence, right on the grounds of the Heritage House, as a monthly or seasonal rental. Situated on the parameter of the historic Heritage House property, the authentic 2-story Caribbean cottage-style home is full of authentic island charm and offers a swimming pool too. If you want to experience the real old time Key West, right were the island was first settled, this is an opportunity to really live a bit of the island’s heritage.

The museum is not much. On the patio outside is a short film of the construction of the road and that is well worth watching.
