This place is simply stunning and being able to witness the bubbling lava below is a truly unique experience which you'll rarely find the opportunity to do again elsewhere in the world.
Only 40 visitors are allowed to ascend to the viewing point at a time and you have 15 minutes to view the volcano at night (the best time to go).

A great natural reserve which gives you chance to see the lava flows and views before watching the sun set behind the active volcano.

Nicaragua Butterfly Reserve

Granada 6.6 mi away
#3 of 8 Nature & Parks in Granada
The butterflies are present around the reserve, but they are mostly kept within a large net (roughly the size of a bungalow), where a full garden and drying fruit keep them busy.
The best way to go is to take a taxi from the cemetery.

Islets of Granada

Granada 10.1 mi away
#1 of 8 Nature & Parks in Granada
Tropical flowers, birds, monkeys, and turtles abound, the views of Volcan Mombacho and Granada are great, and there's even a fort island, built to keep out pirates when Granada was a rich colonial city.
You'll see a mix of luxurious vacation homes owned by Nicaraguan elite and other islands where folks are living off the lake, rowing to school, and doing their laundry on the shore.

Mombacho Volcano

Granada 11.1 mi away
#2 of 8 Nature & Parks in Granada
On our day trip to Granada and Lake Nicaragua, we could see Mombacho for many miles - spotted from the bus as we traveled, as we strolled around Granada and as a lovely backdrop while we cruised on the lake.
Then there are the monkeys which we saw, and the actual zipping from huge majestic trees towering over canopy jungle with shade coffee growing under them and orchids, bromeliads and pitaya growing on them.
