- Bee80204Denver, CO3,897 contributionsRead about this road on a friend’s travel link. He had been on it years ago and decided to add this to our itinerary. We started out on the Montrose end, south of Ridgway. It was not too bad at first but then it got a little dicey where vehicle wheels had made deep ruts in the mud which then dried. Some water puddles in spots. Rocky and gravel in others. We encountered a lot of vehicles to me. A convoy of jeeps and two trucks on their own trips, it made for a dusty drive and we held off so we could see the view without the dust clouds blocking it. And it was narrow in spots where if a vehicle was coming from the other direction we would have been stuck.
Steep grades too.
The positives? It was like a fairy land in spots. With fall leaves softly falling in the wind and the aspens pressing in on both sides. Then the dark green pines in forbidding rows. The overlooks with breathtaking scenery of colors - browns, greens and yellows. Houses here and there. We stopped and accidentally found the property where scenes from True Grit had been filmed. I was constantly charmed by the lovely magical feel of the woods. And then scared at the drive itself. It felt like woods where elves live. Then we were through to the Telluride side. Such an amazing experience. Im glad he’s such a great driver and navigated us safely on the route. I’ll never forget that gorgeous drive.Written October 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Large paved sites, full hookups at most sites, beautiful surroundings, a stocked lake and river, manicured and clean park, firewood and ice for sale, hiking trails, (paved and unpaved), and a modern, clean laundromat with three washers and dryers that work! Restrooms were also clean. It is close to Montrose, Ridgway and Ouray is 20 miles away.
This is a wonderful campground and we thoroughly enjoyed our eight nights. We plan to return next summer for a couple weeks.Written October 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Dennis Weaver memorialized this river edge parcel as an early advocate of environmentalism, sustainability and natural resource advocacy. Stop at the prayer rock or walk along the plateau paths, this park is unique and magical. We need more people with resources and vision like Mr. Weaver and his family to set aside our beautiful country for the public to embrace. My Granddaughter was born as I stopped at this park. It holds heartfelt value for me and I hope for you, too.Written August 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - E BLake Charles, LA676 contributionsWe were driving through town and noticed a sign referencing the museum. They have pit a lot of effort into restoring the history and significance of railroads in the development of our country. We were surprised to find beds and a stove in the caboose. Stop by and spend a few minutes reliving the past.Written May 10, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ABG1 contributionThe Sherbino is the social center of Ridgway! The programming is so diverse and always high quality. I especially love the music an the Sherb Talks. They also did an incredible job providing safe, outdoor, quality programming during COVID last summer and fall. I can't wait until the Sherb is fully open again! Definitely check out the upcoming schedule if you will be passing through Ridgway!Written February 21, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jenny H1 contributionThis museum is a fantastic museum which showcases the history of ranches in our county. I am a 4th-grade teacher and I take my students to this museum each year. I have loved to see the evolution of this museum over time. The care with which this museum is curated is incredible. It is a must-see if you have the time.Written October 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jim B2 contributionsDozens of miles of intermediate single track mountain bike trails, accessible from a parking lot with toilet just off the highway. Not overly hilly. Some views. Some pedal around, some fun swoopy stuff.Written September 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Jim S1 contributionMy wife and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and booked a well-deserved "couples massage". Our two massages lasted an hour, was reasonably priced, and very relaxing and rejuvenating. We felt depleted, which any thorough massage does to this recipient, and will definitely return for this delightfully, wonderful massage. Now, three days later, we both feel terrific and very relaxed-less stress related muscle aches.Written March 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Susan SGrand Junction, CO46 contributionsWell maintained jeeps that are very comfortable and safe. Brenner, the owner, is very helpful and gave us great maps on all the local areas and best back country roads.
