The California Route 66 Museum in Victorville, California is a fun, entertaining and educational highlight on The Mother Road and just off Interstate 15.
The museum is a wonderful collection of artifacts, automobile memorabilia and vantage Americana plus a nice gift shop. The museum building’s open rafters are home to fun objects, including the centerpiece original sign from the nearby Greenspot Motel. A visitor favorite photo op is the front end of a vintage Volkswagen van decked out with ‘60s hippie graffiti.
For those pressed for time, 15 minutes would be a good intro, but the museum really is worth a full hour to really view and absorb all the displays. The all-volunteer staff is friendly, and the nonprofit museum is supported by donations and gift shop sales.

This is the 24th facility we have stayed out this outing. It is absolutely the lowest rated largely because of the trains. Lots of trains. We chose a back-in site along the water. Be advised that the online map of the campground is a mess. It doesn’t delineate the difference of the width of back-ins along the water nor does it even show that there are pull-thru’s! Using a white noise apparatus, the trains did not disrupt our sleep. A quick glance at my past reviews will attest that we strive to stay at the very highest rated available. So why Mohave Narrows? A family member lives near by. While the very immediate area is pretty nice, the overall Victor Valley has deteriorated considerably. The area is severely lacking in short term decent parks to stay at. This park is a fair drive off the freeway on an ever congested Bear Valley Road. Our site was great; probably the most aesthetically pleasing of our 2 month trek. In the future, we will probably use the facility overnight, but only on a weekday. Knowing the demographics of the area, the weekend has the potential to be . . . disturbing. I will say, that $40 a night, with a $7 reservation fee - arrived on a Monday at 3 without reservations to choose a site we wanted without reservations - is . . . high.

Victorville might only be an hour and a half from downtown Los Angeles but in "reality" this is Middle America. There is really no difference in movie theaters, malls, shopping, museums, restaurants whenever you go an hour outside a major metropolitan area...It's all the same and its all relative. You want great golf....Go to Palm Springs or along the coast. You want great museums.....Go to Los Angeles. Wine and golf... go to Temecula. If you want to buy a vacation property...Dont buy one in the high desert. Victorville isn't a destination resort. People live here because you can buy a home for $400,000 that would cost over 2 million in Orange County (only 75 minutes away). All in all, Victorville is just a place where I go and visit my father for the weekend and play golf and go out to eat about 12 times a year.

A little chilly in January, but no rain and it's perfect weather for off roading. You can camp anywhere in the OHV for free. The kids had a lot of fun riding their quads and my husband I had a blast in the side by side. We went on a nice long ride ~15 miles round trip to the Slash X Cafe and ate lunch. We camped in the Stoddard Valley OHV area where there is an outlet center and restaurants (mostly fast food) nearby so it's not like you are way out in the middle of nowhere, but you can ride out and get away from civilization so it's kind of the best of both worlds.

The art gallery is only open before theater shows and during intermissions. Theater has a wide variety of different groups who use the theater and perform.

My experience at the Victorville Veterans Memorial I asked my mom if I can go just for a few hours. When I got there that brought back memories of my grandpa's stories and he used to tell me all the wars he was in like Korean war, Hiroshima, and world war one and two.

Great profusion of produce and crafts from farmers and vendors from all over southern california, mostly from non-urban areas of semi-desert. Farmers appear to have come from as far as fresno in the san joaquin valley, most of the crafters were more local. The event is on the downhill-lower-campus of the junior college, parking is free and pretty convenient to the venue. There is fresh-served coffee and some light snacks but I did not see any meals being served there. There were lots of families with small kids and infants. Many of the farmers/sellers were offering samples of their produce, and it seemed obvious that buyers were repeat customers as this event has been apparently going on for at least a decade. The sellers often had sun and rain shelters, so I presume it is a rain-or-shine event.

Vehicle traffic mostly uses the eastern-most campus entrance for the farmers' market, which is in an area not heavily traveled by regular student traffic so there did not appear to be any problem with car-gridlock or interference with bus traffic associated with the central campus. Despite being on the bottom of a hillside, the venue is mostly on paved and smooth surfaces so would be fairly accessible to families with strollers, carry rollers or wheelchairs. I do not know about bathroom facilities, but would presume the campus athletics center (nearby) would have those.

We visited again this year on our way to Vegas, and it was no surprise to find that nothing had changed. Especially since it appears that nothing has changed there since the 1970's, with the exception of the addition of rollerblades sometime in the 80's.

The place was actually bust this time, unlike when we visited around Christmas in 2015. There would have been easily 50 people skating during this visit, as opposed to 3 during our last visit. It's well air conditioned, and it was summer in the desert this time, so I can see the attraction.

It's still very cheap to enter, I think it was $7 for skaters plus $3(?) for skate hire. And this time we got vouchers for a free hotdog and drink. Water was free, so we didn't use ours, but gave them to another family to use.

The locals may look a bit rough, but everyone was friendly and it's a family oriented place, with plenty of parking.
