Fantastic visit to a magical place. Everything went like clockwork, the bus shuttles, and the wonderful guides. We were so fortunate to have Janet take us on two of the tours. She was incredible - was a font of knowledge, kept our attention at all times, made us feel so special, and treated our small group like personal friends. We truly got our money's worth on everything. Definitely on our list of places to return to since there's so much to see and learn.

What a life these Elephant Seals have.

Sprawled out. Basking in the sun. Playing in the sand. Looking extra cute for all the paparazzi like me to see and snap pictures of the cute, adorable, playful, sleepy heads.

This is definitely a sight to see if you are taking the scenic route on our beautiful California coast. Here are some tips:

    In no particular order:

    - Free :)
    - Parking can be pretty scarce. Patience is a virtue. It is worth it.
    - Best times to visit are said to be late January, April and October.
    - Bring a windbreaker or a jacket. I went in September and it was pretty chilly.
    - Docents on site to answer any questions you may have.
    - Take plenty of pictures and videos!
    ***selfie sticks are awesome***
    - You can also buy souvenirs.

    Definitely a worthwhile stop.

    Enjoy!

This is one of the highlights of our California trip so far. There were hundreds of elephant seals when we arrived. They were active. It was very windy and chilly, but we still stood and watched for 30 minutes. Loved it!

Let's face it, a lighthouse is not exactly something you've never seen before. That said, this one is quite iconic and right up there with Peggy's Cove. It's not always open however, so you best look it up before you go.

We stopped here on the way up the Pacific Coast Highway and had wine, cheese and meats by the sea. Delightful. The staff were also very nice. There are also some really well done historical boards that explain the fascinating background of the Hearst properties. All-in-all, a great way to enjoy linch on your way up or down the PCH.

Just one night in this campground with our trailer. Coin operated showers. A nice trail to the beach with the driftwood structures was all we could fit in. It was very serene...but we dont prefer that our site was a pull along site instead of a pull/back in one.

The bridge is incredible and seems to be endless in length. A must see and venture out on. You really feel the ocean.

If you have any problems just go here and you'll feel so much better. This is a true nature sanctuary, the pelicans are beautiful and I love the walk to San Simeon Point too.

This location is best accessed when weather is good. It’s a short walk but worth it because the cove is a special area, and is about 1/2 mile in length. A lot of neat beach stuff to see.

Its a stunning view - you should go just to see the Coast from this point - it's gorgeous. I love walking around here. It's unlike any other view on the Big Sur Coast. Check it out!

There are lots of beautiful views along the PCH in Big Sur but this is one of the loveliest. Worth the stop.

This is the trail to the north of the first parking lot (southbound) overlooking the Elephant Seals. It is a nice, short hike overlooking the beach. We saw Elephant Seals on the beach, and a heron and a hawk in the grassy area. You can also see a lone rock out in the ocean and can get some pretty good pictures when the waves crash on the back side of the rock with the spray in the background. While we did see several Elephant Seals, we saw a lot more walking on the boardwalk towards the second parking lot.

Not too much here. You can drive slowly through this area, and check out a few of the historic buildings. The winery near by, does not let you bring in your own food for a picnic, but drive 100 yards south and enter into the pier area for a great picnic area and clean bathrooms.

Great little museum with informative park guide and beautiful postcards. Right next to fishing pier and beach.
