If you’re a train lover, don’t miss it. I had always wanted to see it and got a few hours on a business trip to run through it. The cars are in amazing shape and the volunteers love to teach abt it. And the model trains!

Pretty fun, but lots of trash, tattoo parlors & cannabis shops. It could be way more charming & family friendly if there were better places to eat on the riverfront and more trash cans. You can do the whole thing in 1/2 day. Sadly there are lots of closed businesses. But the railroad museum was great.

For novice museum-goers, this is the place. Each item has extensive accompanying information about the author, the item, and something to notice. Parking is annoying, but it's worth it to visit a well-organized museum.

Great place for Californians and visitors to see and learn more about our history ! People who worked in the building were very friendly , beginning with the security, state highway trooper, attendants inside . A Must see when in town !

Saw a lot of what I was hoping to see. Some beautifully restored old cars as well as a couple that were left as is but have that amazing patina that comes with age. I thought the museum lost it's way a bit after the 50's and 60's. A highlight for me was A. P. Giannini's Lincoln which was spectacular and the story of the Bank of Italy in San Fran. A big miss was the lack of examples of the car culture in CA whether it be cars that were prevalent with the surfer and beach culture (there were a couple of beach buggies) or the lowriders. Those are distinctly Californian and having examples of those would have been great.

We parked at Beals Point recreation area on a beautiful sunny spring day and unloaded our E-Bikes and rode 19 miles down to Nimbus Dam overlook on Lake Natoma and back. It’s a really nice paved multi use trail, scenic and although downhill from Folsom it’s a pretty gentle slope. We would like to come back and explore/ride more of it. It said 32 miles to Old Sacramento.

We wandered through the park while waiting for the start time of our museum tour. It's a lovely oasis, such lush greenery, and some interesting people-watching, as well as plaques with historical facts.

This place is a dream for kids.
Even if the kids don't know most of the stories, its a park with a ton of different playgrounds. VERY affordable fun for little kids.

Cathedral of the blessed Sacrament is set in downtown CA capital, some 10 min walk from the Capitol area.
The exterior looked beautiful, however they changed closing time to 4 PM so we couldn't enter.

The Bad: You have to buy your tickets in advance online. You can not buy at the zoo itself. You have to purchase tickets for the train rides and carousel via credit or debit card. For the store, you can only pay with card. As for the food and drink vendors, I am not sure if they only take card because we did not partake. Covid-19 has put a damper on things all around.

The Good: Sacramento Zoo went above and beyond to help me get tickets for my son and I to visit the zoo. He had traveled all the way down from Chico and I had made the mistake of not buying tickets right away. Lesson learned. The animals are well cared for. The animal exhibits are on plentiful. The Zoo is clean and well sanitized. The employees are professional. Over all, we really had an amazing day and we can’t thank Sacramento Zoo for making it happen. ❤️

So, let's start with some basics:

The only original remaining structure of Sutter's Fort is the "main building"--a two story structure in the center of the complex. It was built between 1841 and 1843. Everything else at "Sutter's Fort State Historic Park" is a reconstruction, based on historic documentation.

Entry is $5 for adults; $3 for ages 6 to 17; and children enter for free. Sutter's Fort State Historic Park does not have its own parking lot. Metered city parking is available on 26th and K streets, and there are several public parking lots in the vicinity.

It has been 25 years since my last visit. Since then, a lot of re-construction and restoration work has been performed. There are a more displays and demonstrations than I remember. (Coincidentally, school field trips were taking place during my visit. I kept my distance, but was able to observe staff and volunteers give their presentations and conduct their demonstrations.)

If you're interested in history, Sutter's Fort is well worth the visit. Everyone can walk away with from their visit with a number of different of interpretations, based on context of analysis.

BTW ... The State Indian Museum is adjacent to the Fort. If you have the time, you can tour that museum for a separate admission fee.
