- John WLostant, IL2,244 contributionsI went with the inlaws to California for the week and we came to Morro Bay mainly to go on the whale watching cruise. The large rock (long extinct volcano), is hard to miss even in the fog. While we didn't get to see too much of it at first because of the fog, when we came back it cleared up. Definitely a cool thing to see and plenty of birds hanging around it.Written February 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathleen S4 contributionsMorro Bay is a childhood destination which has stuck with me for 60 years. It has changed a lot, there are many more people, but still no tourist traps. All my years of coming, I never had gone wine tasting in the nearby wine country of Paso Robles. What a lovely 2 days we spent! We would watch the sun hit Morro Rock, and light up the stones which had been wettened the night before by rain, then we would head down to the Rock and look at the HUGE waves breaking OVER the breakwater, then around to the other side of the rock to watch the surfers trying to get out to 10-15 foot waves, as a swell came in. Then breakfast at one of the many great spots... a walk by the Estuary, then off to taste wines at one of the wineries in Paso Robles - a beautifully green, winding road, beautiful vineyards, and within 20 minutes you're able to sit and snack and engage in a tasting. Our two favorites were Changala, and Croad, and third place was AronHill. We learned about dry farming too, something I found fascinating!
From Morro Bay, you can take a short drive North, and watch Elephant Seals, or find a zebra on a hillside!
IN Morro Bay there are numerous Sea Otters, so playful and cute.
I could go on and on and on - there is so much to do and see in Morro Bay!Written February 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Definitely more than I expected. Three dollar entry is very reasonable, and we were surprised to learn that our fourth grade child (download their CA Adventure Pass) got us all in for free! Docents were lovely, search and find activity booklet for the kids was helpful for them to connect with the information in the museum. We also did the virtual reality, headset activity and learned about elephant seals inSan Simeon. A great two hour stop. Places to picnic right outside and easy parking and bathrooms.Written January 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gl0baltr0tterShanghai, China1,111 contributionsHere, you will observe the mother sea otters either hoisting their less than one year old babies on their bellies or holding more than one year old ones next in the water.Written March 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Christine C57 contributionsBeautiful. We went on a Tuesday morning early, after visiting Morro Rock (which by the way is a must see!) and there were only a handful of other people there. There were a ton of tide pools and rocks coming out of the ocean, it was so fun exploring and taking photos.Written July 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Julie G3 contributionsWhat a treat ! Loved our early evening cinema experience with buttery popcorn. Sat in comfort in this beautiful, clean , quaint auditorium that was air conditioned ( bring a cardigan/ jumper if you feel a chill easily) . It was delightful to go to a cinema were only one film was showing - no flash gimmicks or overly expensive treats. Staff were lovely and gave us a taster of root beer which was new to us before we selected our drinks . Seats recline . Could sit anywhere . Plenty of seats and leg room . Loved the old style set up . THANKYOU - an experience to add to our Californian road trip experience.Written August 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joy PSan Rafael, CA77 contributionsThe Avalon is in front of this museum. The Avalon was a Mystic-class deep-submergence rescue vehicle rated to dive up to 5000 feet to rescue submarine crews trapped deep under the sea. - Brian B56 contributionsIf you dislike overpriced food and crowds of people not wearing masks, don't waste your time or endanger your health in the central part of the Embarcadero. Instead head south to this charming uncrowded park overlooking many boats and sea otters playing in the water.Written January 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
