- jonathantakelYeovil, UK120 contributionsLocated just outside the city, you have views for miles. The observatory opens at midday, parking is available, 10$ and hr. You can park for free but you have quite a walk and it is a very steep climb. You can get a very good view of the hollywood sign. The planetarium is a must, got to book but we'll worth it. Give yourself a few hrs to enjoy it all. Take your camera, you will not be disappointed.Written October 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LarsieBDenver, Colorado, USA2,016 contributionsThis is an amazing location to visit in LA. From the time you arrive at The Getty Center, to catching the free tram up the hill to The Getty Center everything is so lovely, clean and tranquil. The architecture, gardens and landscaping, and exhibits are fabulous. I was so surprised to find out that this was all free to attend. There are so very few locations and occasions in the world where something of this quality is free and we really appreciated it. We caught an Uber to and from The Getty Center and it did appear that people were paying for parking, so know that parking needs to be paid but even so it is totally worth a visit. The Getty Center is an outstanding attraction and it really was a lovely way to spend time during our LA stay!Written October 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel SSydney, Australia14 contributionsIf you are into cars this is the place to go. Some of the rarest and one of a kind cars on the planet.
Parking is good, exhibits are always changing. I’ve been 2 years in a row and thought my second visit wound be a little boring seeing it all before but it had changed quite a lot on 12 months.Written October 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This ship is an impressive feat of engineering and is a testament to the American Spirit. - TiginiChristchurch, New Zealand122 contributionsFascinating part of history. If you are interested in the past and what the world looked like back then. Museum was smaller than expected but still worth a visit.Written September 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EvaBothell, WA1,170 contributionsThe Broad Museum in downtown Los Angeles is a must-visit for modern art lovers. With its striking honeycomb-like exterior designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the museum is a visual marvel before you even step inside.
Once you do, you’re treated to a world-class collection of contemporary art, featuring works by iconic artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein, and Yayoi Kusama.
One of the most popular attractions is Kusama’s *Infinity Mirrored Room*, which offers a mesmerizing, immersive experience. It’s a surreal, reflective space that plays with light and perception, though the lines can be long, so plan ahead.
The museum also boasts impressive works from Jeff Koons, including his massive, shiny sculptures, and a rotating collection from the likes of Jasper Johns, Cindy Sherman, and Barbara Kruger. Each floor is carefully curated, with thoughtful galleries that blend vibrant pop art, abstract works, and politically charged pieces.
Admission is free, though it’s highly recommended to reserve tickets in advance as they can go quickly. Despite the crowds, The Broad has a spacious layout, and natural light pours through the building's unique veil structure, creating an inviting atmosphere. The nearby restaurant, Otium, is a perfect place to grab a bite afterward, offering high-end dining that pairs well with a day of artistic indulgence.
Overall, The Broad is more than just a museum—it’s an experience. The combination of cutting-edge design, a stellar permanent collection, and accessible pricing makes it a cultural gem in Los Angeles.Written September 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The wax works, as always, are excellent quality. - NeilOrange County, CA13 contributionsI have visited this Museum many times years ago but either with pops, on my own or with friends, so now that I have a small family, it was nice to see the kids reaction especially because it was their first time here at this Museum, it was a tad annoying as the main entrance was fenced (maybe for renovation, addition or whatevs) being a fan of Architecture, I really wanted them to see the front entrance of the building in its full grandeur, those enormous steps leading to the main entrance but it didn't happen, wonk-wonk. Anyway...
...The kids loved the dinosaur exhibit and surprised to hear them talking about the history of LA and how much interest they have on it, the birds exhibition was really awesome too and of course they loved the gift shop lol
I LOVE the character and architecture of this museum, I also like their seasonal featured exhibits, the old artifacts, the potteries and statues but always somehow at the back of my head, it reminds me of an Indiana Jones movie where some of these old relics can either curse you or bring some bad jujus ha ha so I breeze by those exhibits when I can.
I am thankful we have a Natural History Museum in our City/County, this always is a great place for additional Education and bring awareness especially to young minds not just some history of our existence but also interesting bit regarding our community.Written September 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The museum’s inventory is so impressive, can only imagine the “collection”. My husband and son were mesmerized. I’m not a real car person, but really enjoyed the beauty of the car designs.Written March 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Heather JohnsonSterling, IL51 contributionsThis is a museum FULL of nostalgia. Even if you were unfamiliar with old (and new) Hollywood, it is incredible to just be IN such an iconic, historic building. We thoroughly enjoyed our jaunt through each of the four floors and were struck by how MUCH was in the building. We even took a chance and explored the basement with the horror items, even though half of the family are big chickens!
It was quite an experience, and compared to other places in Hollywood, the price was fair, and the building was so neat!Written March 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Do not go there expecting a comprehensive history of the Grammys or the recording industry. Before going to the museum, I suggest checking their website for a list of current exhibits to see if they interest you at all.
The museum has five floors, but only two floors have exhibits that are included in the basic general admission. On the day we attended, they had “Hip-hop America: The mixtape experience” on the fourth floor. This is a fascinating, historical, interactive, well-curated exhibit of the impact and evolution of hip hop. I enjoyed the nostalgic videos, music, and fashion throughout this exhibit. The fourth floor also has a small Michael Jackson exhibit which displays some of his dazzling jackets as well as a brief documentary which goes behind the scenes of his Thrilller” video.
The third floor had the K-Pop “Hybe: We Believe in Music” exhibit which required an additional entrance fee. For admission into the Hybe K-pop gallery, they gave visitors a paper ticket with a photo of their favorite Hybe K-pop artist. This K-pop exhibit seemed to be heavily BTS- oriented and displayed the members’ outfits from “Proof” and “Yet to Come”. There were other costumes from other Hybe artists such as Enhypen, Seventeen, TXT, and Le Sserafim.
The second floor gallery is devoted to the Latin Grammys and has some beautiful posters and sparkly costumes worn by Latin stars. The Clive Davis auditorium on this floor hosts ticketed events (mostly talks) with various famous recording artists.
The fifth floor has their relaxing rooftop terrace and cafe. The first floor is their retail store.
I think one can finish this museum in under two hours.
I recommend going there if you are a music lover and appreciate learning more about different genres of popular musical history.Written October 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Expect to see some stuff that you don’t normally see. Not really recommended for kids or young teens.
They are currently relocating so hopefully they will be opening soon.
Went back in later part of 2019 (never got around to do this). The museum is pretty good with quite a bit of information on the different items and other stuff in there. Each room has a certain subject or information on different topics. Yes, a few rooms were small and crowded with stuff but was lucky to go during a less busy time to avoid crowded rooms or walkways.
The only 2 or 2 1/2 disadvantages. The first one is the parking and parking lot is limited during busy times (not sure how long or often it happens). Secondly, the price of admission is a tad high for a museum of this size. I could see it being $10 max to better compete with other similar sized museums. Lastly (not really a complaint but maybe a recommendation), is the no photography rule can stay but if someone needs to take a call or something similar then require people to go outside or have a small room inside so they can step in and take the call or text.
But other than that I would definitely recommend this place.Written July 31, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
