Great place to visit and so much going on around here. It was buzzing and is a very different feel to Santa Monica only circa 2 miles away!

Lots of bars and restaurants along with street entertainment. Would definitely recommend.

I was on vacation and wanted to workout at the legendary Gold's Gym in Venice Beach. Some posts I read online said getting a day pass was $20, only to find that now the price has been raised to a whopping $40, but I guess they can get away with it on name and reputation.

That being said, the gym itself is outstanding. It's huge, with various ares with free weights, all kinds of machines in every nook and cranny, and even a outdoor area for training, which was awesome. I went on "Black Friday" after Thanksgiving at about 9AM. While there were a fair amount of people there, it wasn't packed and I had no issues with having to wait for equipment. There's also a gift shop by the reception with some branded clothing, but given how much I had already dropped on the day pass, I wasn't going to spend any more.

I took Casie's hiphop class at 10AM and Jhon's Zumba at 11 AM on Tuesday. Both was fun but got different flow. I love hiphop better because of the songs but for zumba lovers i recommend to take Jhon's class, everyone was very energetic as well.

For those travelers lucky enough to be in Venice/Santa Monica in the spring and summer, all you need for a party is for the sun to come out. Many stay at the beach and do not get the "full monty". The key streets to shop, eat and play are Abbot Kinney (Venice, voted the coolest street in America) and Main Street (Santa Monica) a legendary playground. The best place to play is YAS, a state of the art yoga and spin studio which recently moved from Abbot Kinney (after 15 years) to Main Street on the border of Santa Monica.

There is nothing like the energy of indoor cycling classes at YAS. The instructors are well trained and are incredibly motivating and supportive. Music is key, and the instructors are known for the best music in town. The energy, motivation and music come together to make cycle classes at YAS safe, fun and effective. Regardless of how fit, flexible or coordinated you are, you’ll get a great workout. Be ready to sweat!

The owner & founder is Kimberly Fowler, lawyer, yogi and originator of YAS (yoga for athletes and spinning). I first went in 2004 (when I found out that it was at Bruce Lee's old studio in Venice) and became hooked (I drive from Beverly Hills at sunrise to get there weekly). I use it for martial arts training (I am a black belt in karate). Others are serious yogis (unlike me who is always on the verge of falling down on the balance poses). The vibe is fun... music, cool teachers, and great pace. No "yoga nazis" who torture you with their demons. No pretense, no drama just "good, clean fun" (tough to find in 2016).

So why yoga? Improves health, longevity, reduces stress, makes you stronger, leaner more energized and gets you in touch with the universal rhythms which are most pronounced at the beach (best understood by "watching the waves"). Yoga was brought to the US by Paramansa Yogananda whose lakeside shrine in Pacific Palisades is my "house of worship" (which includes ashes from Gandhi who was, like Kimberly, a lawyer and yogi).

Yas has just moved into a beautiful new studio. Don't you want to play at the beach in California? If so, start at YAS you will be glad you made the move.

My weekly go-to class is still the Brentwood studio with Stefanie but she also teaches here in Venice so if I can't make her B-wood class, I'll trek over to Venice and suffer on the new machines in Venice.

Stef's classes are awesome! Super hard and I am drenched...DRENCHED in sweat after her class. I never go out Thursday nights because I'd rather be in Stef's class working hard. I like her class because she starts of with a "warm-up" so you get your body going although the warm-up is still super tough and I'm always always taking cheat breaks. You pretty much work every part of your body in the hour long class. She does "cardio bursts" during class so there is some cardio.

My girlfriends and I have also have taken private sessions with her...the session was super reasonable. Ever since, a bunch of my friends are now addicted to spx pilates now too!

The Ballys locations throughout Los Angeles differ as much as the city itself.

Dont waste your time at the Overland location in Culver City! You will spend more time looking for parking than working out. Bally's now offers valet parking since its members have to circle like vultures...but who wants to pay to park and then work out? The club itself offers a pool, sauna, plenty of cardio machines and free wights.
It has several floors and one rec room. Bring a walkman--The club pumps out really bad Muzak.

The Bundy location has parking but you will pay-- Currently 50 cents, to park in their lot. Inside you will find an indoor running track that offers a safety from the cars! The Bundy club offers free weights, cardio machines and is close to the 10 freeway!
