- Lynette51Santa Barbara, CA1,860 contributionsI was hoping for a super bloom but due to extensive rainfall California has experienced the weeds have stunted the poppy growth. There were some poppies but not what I was hoping for. But there are extensive trails and it's great to walk them. You can easily spend half a day walking the trails. There is a small paved walkway but the majority are dirt well maintained trails. Great just to be out walking and taking in the rolling hills with orange color. The visit center is very small. I suggest going early in the day as it can fill up quickly and parking can then be hard. Tons of restrooms in anticipation of large groups. Definitely worth the beautiful drive along Highway 138 to get to it.Written April 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BENelsonLancaster, CA60 contributionsI had some time to spare. I been dying to visit this cinematic landmark for quite sometime. Headed over to ave. "G" and drove east. After about 40 minutes of California high desert landscape just over an unexpectedly steep hill I instinctively slowed down. Looking directly across the street...there she was. The Sanctuary Adventist Church. The location where the brutal beating of The Bride took place under the directorial vision of Quintin Tarantino.Written November 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MikenMary9 contributionsLooked for something to do a day before heading to the Poppy Reserve. If you're a lover of art and appreciate all that goes into art, this place is a must see. It's always free, but there is a suggested contribution of $5pp. It's for a good cause...art! I come from a art appreciating family and if you appreciate and want to support the arts it's a must see. Interesting pieces. Took no more that 1hr to get through.Written April 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lora G8 contributionsI took our grandsons fishing last weekend and it was amazing. The park was clean the lakes looked great. We fished in two of the three lakes. The boys caught 15 fish together and wanted to go back the next morning. It was their first time catching fish and now they’re hooked!Written August 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Creeping_Death_LALos Angeles, CA4,517 contributionsThis is a hidden gem of a park. If you love to walk then I highly recommend this area to spend some time at. The only downside is the hours of operation which is very limited. If you look around you can find painted rocks by AVrocks members who leave them scattered everywhere.Written November 8, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ldehayes2014Riverside, CA30 contributionsCleverly designed and quick to do. Worth the effort to find it. Out in the middle of nowhere. Quite unique.Written September 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Norm GFresno, CA324 contributionsThis museum is an old homestead home built into a boulder pile, with a boulder-strewn desert butte backdrop! In addition to the usual arrowheads and pottery, there are impressive examples of baskets, textiles, cordages, & sandals that don't usually survive. There are interpretive displays of food, fiber, and pigment preparation. The home is lavishly decorated with painting and decor that are like a Southwest fantasy (the first owner was an artist)!
Open to the public ONLY on Saturdays after 11 am. (Check the website! Group tours during weekdays are only by appointment.)
Why did I wait so long to see this? Well, it's a ways from Lancaster (150th St. East!), past large alfalfa fields, far to the east of the city. You'll see Joshua tree "forests" and other small desert buttes, along with forlorn trailers and abandoned homesites. WELL Worth the trip!!Written March 3, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It turns out that this really wonderful facility is located in a great park which I visited with my grandchildren the last time I was here. Membership at the Y is for a minimum month period. But the fees are reasonable and there is a pool as well as a fully equipped work-out room.Written October 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
