We stopped here kind of randomly on our last day in California. We had a wonderful afternoon shopping and eating. The stores were great (and there was a great variety). We enjoyed the food, and there is good coffee shops. There are also some nice fountains and seating areas. Great place to spend an afternoon!

My son is 18 months and I will be taking him back here all the time. We spent 3 hours there. He found 3 things that he focused on, but there were hundreds more. This will be an easy win for me to teach him all kinds of motor skills, montessori concepts etc for a long time.

The museum is on the ground floor of an office building in Irvine, but don't let that deter you, the exhibit was very nice and parking is validated. It is one of the few 'cultural' opportunities in this area and we enjoyed visiting.

We love Tanaka farms. We have been there many times with our children to pick fruits and vegetables and specifically pumpkins.

We were in town on vacation and visited the refuge for a morning walk. This is a reclaimed water management site (no odor) with several large ponds that attract birds and wildlife. The ponds are surrounded by over 10 miles of trails (some are dirt roads, really) with a hard-packed surface. The Sea and Sage Chapter of Audubon operates a small visitor center at the entrance with a library and gift shop. The woman working there was very pleasant and helpful. She gave us a map of the reserve (also available online). We spent about 90 minutes walking the loop trails (about 2.5 miles) and saw wildflowers and many birds, particularly waterfowl. The trails were mostly level and firm enough to roll a wheelchair on, though I wouldn't recommend it in wet weather. Benches are provided for resting. The vegetation around the ponds has grown up very high so it was frustrating that we couldn't see over or through it except in certain locations. There weren't very many people there on a Tuesday and it was peaceful and relaxing. Restrooms are provided but the two in the back of the park are portable toilets so I recommend using the one at the entrance before you head out. Note that dogs and bicycles aren't allowed in the reserve.

This was a former military base and the city has turned it into a huge park. There are a lot of things here! Lots of ball fields, playground, art gallery, a hangar and planes left over from the base, the big orange balloon you can ride up in and a carousel. Sadly it was too windy when we arrived so I didn't get a chance to go up in the balloon.
We enjoyed strolling through the farmers market and bought a few things.

Very fun place. A nice surprise very close to 405 and 5 FWY.
It was perfect stopping here to wait for the rush hour to pass.

This is a very good playground for kids. They especially liked playing with the giant Lego blocks, play structures, slides, climbing obstacles, sand pit, mud section, jungle gym, and other things. I don’t know if the large chess set belongs here. I don’t see it fitting in with the other kid's activities. Bring extra set clothes for your kids. They are likely to get dirty.

We followed the directions on the map software and reached an unpaved patch of road that crossed a bike path. It led us to a small parking - maybe 15 cars or so. We were lucky to get an open spot. Then we did an easy hike that took us slightly uphill and then downhill to what appeared to be another parking. Could not see any place to view the ocean from. The place has grass and shrubs. They're working on making it a regular natural habitat. There were many small animals like chipmunks. Interesting variation of foliage. Nice uphill views. Lightly breezy - made it worth it.

We had fun playing mini golf! There are two courses, plus go-carts, some small rides, batting cages, bumper boats, a small water park and an arcade.

There’s a great short hiking trail that starts at the park and leads up to the top of Turtle Rock. Great views from the top!

University of California Irvine is a great university, with almosyt zero social life. And, the roundabout design of streets and the campus simply confuse and defy logic. Makes person stay away from the area as confusing and often a traffic jam during school or events.

We attended the Ray Charles tribute. Even though we've been residents of Orange County for decades we've never been to an event at this theater. It was a wonderful experience. Great acoustics for music, an intimate setting and easy access.
