We spent a full day here during our safari; towards the end of our visit. Most of the wildlife we saw we had already seen at the Serengeti and Lake Manyara but the herd sizes here (zebra, wildebeests) are really impressive. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to catch a glimpse of the elusive rhino, but we still saw plenty including lions, elephant, hippo, buffalo, hyena, jackal, and the larger ground birds - ostrich, kori bustard and crowned cranes. We even got to watch a couple of impala clashing in a fight which was exciting to watch.
Even if there were no wildlife at all this caldera would be stunning as it’s a wonder of nature. The whole experience of driving down into the crater, around the various different habitats within it and back up again is a worth a visit in itself. The views and landscapes are exceptional.
I would recommend staying at the Serena Lodge hotel on the crater rim as, apart from being a lovely hotel with great views from your room, it is the closest to the descent road so you will down into the crater before the crowds. This is is popular place to visit and it does get busy. Full credit to the enterprising van who sells coffee, ice-cream and Pringles at the picnic site here - they were doing a ‘roaring’ trade if you’ll excuse the pun!

We stopped on our way to the Ngorongoro crater to learn about the area. Fun educational area and well studied staff that did presentation of the gorge and the history.

It is definitely an interesting trip and an interesting trek (walk). But it is bought directly by a terrible road, which is really terrible in Africa.
But whoever has stamina will experience the authentic world of the Maasai and their landscape without the commercial smell of the abuse of the natives and without mass tourism.
    So I can recommend.

As a fan of human history I loved taking a step back in time, though there not so much to see. Did not mind the short detour on our way to Serengeti

I read the previous reviews after we visited the tribe. It's an optional item in our 6-day local tour package and we do want to see what it's.

After the welcoming singing and dancing, and showing how to set fire with some sticks, we were brought to see their huts.

However it's strange to us that we three were separately brought by three different tribe men to separate huts allegedly their homes. My young guide always put his hand on my shoulder with his body kept close to me. I didn't feel comfortable so I finally tried to avoid and move away from him which I succeeded.

My friend's experience was no better. She told me that when she tried to leave after seeing the hut, her guide didn't allow her leave with his hand.

After all, to us, it's an experience anyway. We are happy to see what culture or things offered to us whatever it is.

  • My experience with Nice Adventure Safaris started with a little bit of restlessness since I knew nothing abot the company.

Luckily to me, I immeadiately met Pickett the owner, a man passionate for his businees and the well-being of his clients. One person of such a kind difficult to forget.

He picked me up from the airport and brought me back there after the safari days. Furthermore, despite living in a city many hours away, he booked a accomodation to Ruaha National Park to make sure everything was perfect.

He hired the best guide and driver I have ever had in a safari. Leonard was superb at guiding. In addition to his excellent knowledge of all Ruaha ecosystem, he brough plenty of books, binoculars,... to help me understand a little bit more the relationships between the different species of the park. Books on footprints, mammals, birds,... made my safari trip so incredible. It made the difference between a good safari and the best I have ever had in my life. We saw leopards, lions, raptors,... everything and Leonard knew every detail about them.

Moreover, Pickett offered me a lot of possibilities to pay, I could tell he was not interested only in my money - by the way his services are so underpriced- but, overall, in my enjoyment and well being. He understand the business and perfectly know that a satisfied client may bring much more potential earnings than the money you can have in the present from a disappointed client.

Finally, all were very interesting people eager to share their experiences and stories. I ended up sharing all my meals that my safari lasted. It was a combination of the best national park, knowledge and kindness that made this an unforgetable experience.

We booked a coffee plantation tour with Ekenywa Tours. We were picked up on time, a little early in fact.

We first hiked to a waterfall where we where helped across a stream and given a small smoothie (avocado, banana, cardamom and passion fruit). It was delicious.

Next we walked among banana trees. Emmanuel pointed the various types of bananas, the variety ensures the farming is sustainable, and no chemicals are sprayed. During the hike we were told about what we were seeing and the questions we posed were answered with ease.

Next we learned all about the production process for coffee beans. We helped pound the coffee and then they roasted it on an open fire. We then helped grind the beans. The coffee was delicious.

The lunch was also delicious. Soup with plantains and more.

    We then tasted banana beer.

The tour took from 7:30 a.m. when we were picked up in Arusha through to 4 p.m. We enjoyed every minute of the tour and felt we were among friends.

It was an experience to remember. I would have booked another tour with Ekenywa Tours if I had had the time.

We organised our safari from Kenya. Our guide Michael was an excellent young man. He ensured that we had the full experience. We happened on a male lion who had just killed a buffalo. Plenty of time for photographs.
We saw every type of animal during our safari, elephant, lion, hippo, hyena, jackal, rabbit.... and more!
    Another Bucket List Tick A huge 5 Smiley Face rating :) :) :) :) :)

This was a good way to spend a down day not on safari, but I would not let it replace spending time on game drives.

We went to Tarangire park and the Serengeti with this company. Our driver was great. Aiden, the owner was not.

His method of extracting extra money is to ensure you are at the Serengeti gate before discovering that his credit card does not have enough cash on it. So you have just driven 4-5 hours to the gate and don't want to turn around and so you pay, with a promise of a refund later.

    The refund never arrives.

Tarangire park is fantastic. And the Serengeti is amazing. Worth going to both, just be careful which company you choose.
