The prison itself is very interesting. You may want to read up or watch available videos on its history and even about some of its supernatural residents to make it a little more interesting. It was especially interesting to note the connections with Tombstone esp. Sheriff Behan, of Tombstone, having become the Warden after leaving Tombstone after the great shoot out.
Recommend at least a couple of hours.

Our docent was first rate and gave us a lot of insight into how and why Yuma was an important place in the history of this part of the country. Also about the current situation with water rights and farming and the Dalton Sea, and the challenges ahead for the area.

The very peaceful outdoor seating area provided us with a relaxing and comfortable way to enjoy our dates.

Many different and unusal varities gave us the opportunity to sample from different areas of the world.

The store is quite well laid out and very clean the staff were helpful and the prices are reasonable. All in all, a worthwhile place to visit,

Well maintained old train engine. To appreciate this area, learn about the river and its crossing and the role the trains played in the story of this area.

Challenging trail for some hikers such as myself, I walk a few miles everyday, but this a challenge. The walk to the base of the hill was nice. Beautiful scenery and mountain life, lizards and quail. Very friendly hikers on the trail and the peak is breathtaking! A sign in book waits at the top.
It was my birthday and I wanted to challenge my fitness level, my heart was pumping near the steep top! I love it!
Take water, a hat, sunglasses, chap stick,
    Sunscreen and a friend !

We had packed a picnic and stopped here midday while visiting the area. The park was quite large, and is within walking distance of the wetlands and the territorial prison. We enjoyed watching the trains pass by while we relaxed on a bench with our lunch. The park appeared to be quite well used by locals and visitors alike, with walking and biking trails along the river, a playground, and mature trees for shade.

We are winter visitors to Yuma and make it a point to visit the Visitors Center every year for new and updated information about the area. Yesterday we visited again and found the available information to be excellent.

BUT... I was perusing the items for sale in the gift shop and was drawn to the multi-colored gecko wall sculptures. I was shocked to read the tags on the items, which said "Made in China"!!! How embarrassing... Mexico and its abundance of nice art is less than 20 minutes away, and you are selling "Mexican" souvenirs made in China!! Shame on you!!

Quite a few camping spots but all of them were taken. The spots are a bit rustic but nice solitude! We hope to return and find a place to camp.

The lady volunteering in the refuge office is very informative. Enjoyed the auto tour where there is a place to stop, park and walk the trails to see lots of geese and other waterfowl.
Bring your binoculars and view all different species of wildlife!
