What travelers are saying
- Jadon SUnited Kingdom4 contributionsAt first I was hesitant because there hadn't been a review in 5 years but the app seemed legit so I went for it. Needless to say I was not disappointed. The people who come to the games come to PLAY and nothing else (I went to the Palermo grounds). As a Brit looking to have a go at a few games with the locals here it was such a fun experience and the people that go are super friendly (and very competitive). I'd definitely recommend for any foreigners looking for the same thing, it's also very cheap! I paid the equivalent of £4 for one session so it quickly became something I did every week. Great for players at any level. Depending on the pitch you go to the conditions of said pitch may vary but nonetheless if you're looking to burn off those empanadas or want to continue playing the sport you love while on holiday then look no further.Written June 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel P3 contributionsI went with my daughter in winter so it was just us doing the activity; but we weren't the only ones there that day because the location also functions as a polo club for friends of the owner as well as some paying members; and we shared lunch with the poly players. The players are extremely charming and friendly, and our guide, Agustin, was great and is very interesting to talk to.
The food was excellent (a grill), and we rode horses and played polo after a fashion-- we didn't have horse riding experience so of course we couldn't expect to do much more than hit the ball. We were quite tired at the end of the day.
For me personally, the most interesting part was talking to Agustin and the owner of the club, Rubin; he is a very well connected individual and has a lot of businesses in Argentina. There is much more of great interest that I could write here, for example about famous Argentinians who have recently visited the club, but I don't know how much of what he told me he would be happy to be repeated here so I won't share details. Argentina is very divided society, and you'll get a very different perspective from talking to the urban professionals versus the people connected to the countryside. Both sets of people are equally charming and friendly, but their opinions about where Argentina should be going as a country tend to be very different.
As you can see my main interest in the thing wasn't really connected to the horse-riding and polo aspect, but that was very interesting and cool too. At first our horses were a bit unco-operative because apparently horses can tell if you haven't ridden before and they know that they can get away with a certain amount of munching on grass which is what they naturally prefer to do. But after we swapped horses they were much better behaved and they went where we wanted.Written August 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jordan G12 contributionsThis was a lot of fun! If you're considering doing it, you should! We had very little previous experience riding horses and less experience with the rules of polo. We quickly were taught how to ride and the rules of polo. While we were beginners, our tour did have a more experienced player. We all had a great time!Written December 31, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Felicia v1 contributionI spent 10 days at the academy in Argentina (polo holiday) and had an absolutely great time!! Fidel was an amazing teacher, I did learn a lot about playing polo and everything around, they have great horses for all levels. Everyone from the academy is very welcoming and make you feel like home. This was one of the best holiday ever, thank you again to the academy!Written February 28, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tiffany E2 contributionsWhat a fantastic experience. My husband and I were in Buenos Aires for a month and wanted to try polo. I have a lot of experience horseback riding (dressage, eventing, show jumping), however had never played polo, and my husband had never been on a horse. Sabrina adjusted to our experience perfectly. She was not only very communicative and organized the pick up and drop off (our driver was a sweetheart), but the lesson itself was so so well done. We had an intro to how to swing the club, then she showed me how to ride a polo pony (VERY different than what I have ever done) and then worked with Neven. Then we played a bit of polo and had a mini-match. Super super fun. I highly recommend Polo in Buenos Aires.Written December 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Lisa FBaltimore, MD155 contributionsWhat an AWESOME day! We were not sure what quite to expect, given we'd never played polo, been to a match, or even watched one on TV. But wow...what a cool day! There is absolutely nothing negative or constructive I can say about this tour, so I will list all of the positives, in no particular order.
Our "polo instructor" was super nice, friendly, patient, and genuinely wanted us to have a good time, learn some things and grow an appreciation for a sport you can tell his is so passionate about. We started the day with a lesson on the fake horse, which was key before introducing a live animal into the mix. Then we moved on to getting on our horse, and go to spend 1-1.5 hours practicing our swings and getting used to the animal. This was also key, because it is SO MUCH HARDER THAN IT LOOKS! Finally, we ended our polo experience with a 'mini match' that lasted about 20-30 minutes, and allowed us to attempt to score goals and actually play the game of polo. While we probably all looked like kindergarteners do on their first day of soccer practice, it was really, really fun.
We spent the remainder of the day enjoying a fabulous lunch with our polo coach, wandering the grounds via bicycle (provided, free of charge), visiting the polo club clubhouse, and completing the garden/labyrinth maze (which took us about 40 mins - it is quite challenging and fun), and finally getting to watch 'real' polo players during practice.
The grounds are spectacular. The day was full, but not rushed and didn't feel artificial or touristy. It truly felt like we had been welcomed into polo culture for a day. The animals are well cared for, the staff is super friendly, and the experience is a little majestic.
It's a bit of a drive from BA, but the drivers to/from were professional and on-time, which made the drive/time commitment well worth what we got out of the day.
I would recommend spending a day at Puesto Viejo in a hearbeat!Written December 31, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
