Angelo picked us up on time he was very friendly, polite gentleman introducing us all, different nationalities who possibly laughed and enjoyed one another’s company all day .

Great communication - he is friendly, informative and knowledgeable and not just about wines. We went to three very different wineries tailored to our tastes and a picture postcard stop for lunch by the bottom of the mountain where we tried a local dish recommended by Louw which was outstanding. Ask for Louw if you book this trip. You will not be disappointed. She was so personable and really made sure we not only had a great day, but that our preferences for wines was prioritized and that the overall tour was top notch. We left feeling like mini experts on chenin blanc! Can not say enough about the beautiful wineries, scenery, and great time that we had. He was so knowledgable about the areas and took us to some great spots in Stellenbosch, and a drive through Franschhoek, with one last winery in Paarl. - BarbF10 contributionsOur halfday trip to Stellenbosch winelands was just a little bit below our expectations. As we are not big on wine drinking, we were thinking that a full day tour would have been too much, but with more information we would probably opt out for it instead. First, pick up times seemed to not have been communicated properly, we were picked up 30 minutes earlier than our ticket suggested, and there was another person that 'wasn't ready on time' so our guide asked him to take an Uber to the first winery. At both wineries, the tables were not ready when we arrived, and waiting times to be seated, for setting up the table and between wines were quite longer than the whole group expected (this is probably not the reflection of the tour organiser, but it didn't seem like our guide was surprised so it might be a regular occurence). With all that, we had no time at all to walk around the winelands, and even the driving tour around the city of Stellenbosch was very short with no stops or historical information. Finally, the wines were also underwhelming, which might have been a result of time limitation and choosing wineries closer to the city. Overall, if you are looking to experience the atmosphere and tastes of South African winelands, I strongly recommend to take a whole day tram tour instead. If you are in a rush and can only dedicate half a day to it, self driving to the best winery might also be for you. We met some nice people on this tour, and got to taste wines in pairing with both cheese and biltong, but we believe there is more to Stellenbosch winelands and we would like to come back for a more extensive tour.Written September 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She was very knowledgeable and engaged with the 6 of us friends on the tour. Colleen’s knowledge of South African wines and current events was very impressive and welcomed by our group. - John MCairns, Australia50 contributionsA great funny afternoon. There were only 6 of us on the tour and we all got on very well. The first Winery was Fairview and was as expected. The staff there were very good and knowledgeable. The wines were excellent with the cheese offerings.
The second winery was not as good with little atmosphere. I cannot remember their name.
Our group talked so much we were late getting to Stellenbosch and only had time for a quick walk. - Ned K8 contributionsHad a wonderful trip with Wine Escapes. Our guide Martin was so informative and took us to some beautiful wineries that were not the large tourist variety wineries. We learned so much about South Africa and the different people who reside there. Martin was a former winemaker who was so knowledgeable about all of the various aspects of the wine making process. It really was a great day, with of course tasty wines! Thank you so much Martin for a very memorable day!
