Excellent museum, which not only contains jade but also a vast amount of artifacts.
Very informative regarding the early inhabitants of Costa Rica. Excellent way to spend hours learning history.

Loved this museum. Located downtown just a few blocks from many restaurants and attractions makes this a great stop when in San Jose! Very cool old building with lots of history! Exhibits were very well done! Pu5mthismone on your list to visit!

On the way to Tortuguero Nationalpark (or to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca), you drive through this very green and lush looking Nationalpark. I dont know about the options there for hiking, and for staying overnight, but it looked really beautiful and is easy to reach from the capital.

I walked around the park after a trek from the central district. Traffic is very busy in this city. It's a great relief to have such a green space near the urban core. It could use some more thought about layout and perhaps add some more gardens and plaques to native plants, but otherwise very pleasant. Unfortunately, you have to pay to use the washrooms but that was minor. They were clean, which was appreciated, unlike some cities I could mention. I also like seeing the police patrolling regularly and have a lot of respect for the local force.

Trip Advisor doesn't seem to have a listing for the Museo Penitencerio that shares space with the Kids museum but it's ultimately separate.
A small but informative museum reckoning with the terrible history of this prison. The museum recreates the conditions using original cells. It includes actual graffiti from the prisoners as well as statues of inmates with authentic artifacts of the the period.
The museum does a good job at taking responsibility for the atrocious conditions they allowed at this site.

This is an adventure park with a purpose. The park's motto is "healthy children help sick children". Costa Rica´s Children´s Hospital is financed by the profits of this park. So if you visit, you enjoy and leave a bit of your money for this excellent institution.

Very enjoyable to sit on a bench and read in the peace and quiet in the middle of the park. Many trees have their names and description on a plaque.

This small garden hosts many beautiful plants and butterflies. It is in a challenging location, but once there, it was very pleasant and restful. It is in the same general area as the Zoological Park, across the same canyon, but you have to travel all the way around on a bridge in order to find it.

The plaza itself is worth a visit, but do be sure to also walk down the pedestrian walkway. As you continue walking, you can find some beautiful historic buildings (turn right down another pedestrian only walkway after leaving Palza de Cultura). There are a number of small cafés and eateries to try all around the area. Do not go at night. By day, just be cautious as you would in any large city.

I've gone in a couple of times for a few minutes of contemplation and prayer, for those who want a respite from the busy streets of San Jose. It's not one of the grand cathedrals of the world but pleasant nonetheless. I found it a nice way to give thanks and centre yourself amidst all the hustle and bustle.

I only saw it from the outside but it looks very modern, clean and well run. I know it's a building which most are very proud of and I can understand why.

An enjoyable day of walking through as zoo that consists of meager offerings. Lots of birds and reptiles, a few monkeys and we did see on jaguar. There are far better zoos around the world but for the meager entrance fee, this is worth some time if you have time. Not a priority, but something fun to do for a few hours.

A wonderful place to have a great time with family, friends or business colleagues. We had a great time in a dinner activity organized by the company for which I work for. Live entertainment, good typical food and a beautiful scenario at Pueblo Antiguo.

We went to the San Jose Museum of Natural History in June of 2021. We had been in San Jose and toured for 4 days already. My daughter and 9 year old grandson arrived and wanted to sleep in and have a quiet day. We chose this Museum to visit as my grandson loves dinosaurs. We were not disappointed! On entering the large main area we encountered a huge T. Rex!! My grandson was impressed (not easily accomplished), and this was a great spot for photos. There were impressive collections representing all the flora and fauna of Costa Rica and more. They had the most impressive Butterfly collection that I have ever seen. There were large exhibits of Birds, Monkeys, Sloths, Sea Life, Corals and much more. This is a wonderful museum that does not seem to make it to the top of most visited lists. We were able to get in easily and bought tickets at the door. Go, and you will love it!!!

Directly opposite Cathedral. Concrete structure in middle. Many locals resting and socializing. Worth a walk walk through since close to Csthedral.
